Irish events abound for St. Patrick’s Day 2014 .  The annual parade is Sunday, and a number of musical and cultural events surround the holiday…including Celtic Nights: A Night of Music,Song and Dance at the Annenberg Center Saturday featuring musicians and dancers straight from the Old Sod. Here’s a full listing of Irish events in the area.



The Pennsylvania Ballet celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special encore presentation with a live chorus of John Butler’s Carmina Burana, which has been in its repertoire since the 1960s, and the Company premiere of George Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto. Friday and Saturday.

Plays & Players Theater launches a new yearly series for young audiences with the P.L.A.Y. (Philadelphia Local Artists for Youth) production of Delaware Mudtub and the Mighty Wampum, which explores myths around local animals — the great blue heron, the red fox, and the box turtle–from the indigenous people of the Delaware River, the Lenni-Lenape.  Through March 29.

This weekend is your last chance to see secrets of the circus in the traveling exhbiition Step Right Up! Behind the Scenes of the Circus Big Top, 1890-1965 at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown.

Philadelphia Dance Projects presents SCUBA National Touring Network for Dance featuring companies from Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Nichole Canuso Dance from Philadelphia. For the first time audiences will be able to see artists from all four cities Friday and Saturday at Temple University.

Families are encouraged to dress as their favorite storybook characters Saturday for Please Touch Museum’s 6th Annual Storybook Ball and 29th Annual Book Awards, an evening of enchanted entertainment, family-friendly cuisine, carousel rides and theatrical performances.

Did you ever make a tornado in a bottle?  Probably not but you can do it Saturday at the Independence Seaport Museum’s Seafarin’ Saturdays, this week focused on their current exhbition about Disasters on the Delaware.

Joyce Kozloff’s debut solo exhibition in New Jersey, Cradles to Conquests: Mapping American Military History, references imagined and historical military events through the veil of decorative arts and the point of view of a feminist and anti-war activist. Through Saturday at the gallery at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
