THURSDAY 11/17

Show: Mark Normand: Comedy Central One Hour Special Taping
Venue: The Angel Orensanz Center

Location:172 Norfolk Street NYC
Time: 7:30 & 9:30pm

Description of Show and Lineup:
Mark Normand has been told over and over again the same advice; “be yourself,” but that has never worked out so well for him. Fortunately for you, everything Mark wants to talk about (drinking, race, religion, gender, sexuality), though not necessarily appropriate, makes a hilariously twisted sort of logical sense. Mark is awkward and possibly autistic but his jokes are honest and funny. So far, Mark has done a Comedy Central HALF HOUR special, has appeared on TBS’s CONAN four times, Showtime’s “Live at SXSW”, INSIDE AMY SCHUMER, TruTv, Last Comic Standing, @Midnight, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central’s Roast Battles and released an album with Comedy Central records titled “Still Got It.” In 2013, he won Caroline’s March Madness competition, beating out 63 other comedians. He was also voted Village Voice’s “Best Comedian of 2013.” Mark’s podcast “Tuesdays with Stories” is hugely popular. He is famous for doing the most spots of any New York Comic doing an unprecedented 7 spots some nights. New York Magazine said of him “”he’s one of the best joke writers out of many.” In 2012, Mark appeared on “John Oliver’s New York Standup Show” on Comedy Central, and in 2011 was picked as one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch.” He has toured the US and at this point, the world selling out clubs and even performing in arenas. And the accolades keep piling up, Mark was also named Esquire’s “Best New Comedians 2012”, Splitsider’s “Top 10 Up and Coming Comedians on Each Coast”, and Time Out New York’s “21 New York Comedy Scene Linchpins”. What has this all been for, well Mark would say that it has all been pushing him to put together the best Hour of Comedy possible. And guess what, a few lucky New Yorkers like you can be there to see him film that amazing hour of comedy for Comedy Central.

Show: Judah Friedlander
Venue: Union Hall

Location:702 Union Street
Time: 10pm

Description of Show and Lineup:

Stand-up comedy has been Judah’s main thing since he first started in 1989. His onstage persona of The World Champion has taken on different shades over the years. It was initially a satire on narcissism & braggarts. Then the persona morphed into being a real life superhero (who is actually humble) subliminally getting audiences to question why we have heroes. For the past several years & currently, Judah’s act has been predominantly satirizing American exceptionalism as well U.S. domestic and foreign policy. The World Champion is a champion of the world – who stands up for earth’s rights and the people, animals, and plants of the planet. If America does the right thing, Judah will be the next president of the United States. Judah has a stand-up special & album coming out soon.

Description of Show and Lineup:

Rolling Stone Magazine: “Here he is, though, in front of a live audience each week, bravely recording some of the boldest comedy on the podcasting frontier right now.”   It’s just Proops and you. There’s no fan fare. Proops takes center stage at small table and chair setup with a single microphone. Then he’s off. An hour or so of great conversation that flies by at a break neck clip. He crams the feeling of a great two-way conversation into the lecture-style format of a one-way conversation.   Part professorial, part crazed comedian, Proops forms the show around his talent and passions. The show flows like a love letter to tangents. The Proopcast has been to Australia, New Zealand, Montreal, London, Paris, Edinburgh, Norway, Amsterdam, Brooklyn, Dublin, Austin, Cleveland, San Francisco and off the coast of St. Martin in the Caribbean. Now you must fall.   Be there and experience joy for once in your life.

Jo, who was raised in Tacoma, WA, credits his mother for his comedic and acting talents. She encouraged him to participate in school talent shows and to hold impromptu performances for his family and friends. This loving support led to performances at a Las Vegas coffee house, and inspired a move to Los Angeles. In 2005, Jo had the “opportunity of a lifetime” with a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He became one of a select few ever to receive a standing ovation. Jo Koy pulls inspiration from his family and specifically his son.  He has had two Comedy Central specials “Don’t Make Him Angry” and “Lights Out.”  Jo has appeared on VH1, World’s Funniest Fails, The Joy Behar Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly and Jamie Foxx: Laffapalooza. Jo is a firm believer in service and giving back to the community and is currently working with The Lupus Foundation to bring awareness to this cause. Jo currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
