The World Badminton Championships began in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta today. London Olympics quarter-finalist Parupalli Kashyap and HS Prannoy advanced to the second round of the Singles. The 10th seeded Indian defeated Dutch Erik Meijs, 21-17, 21-10, while 11th placed Prannoy beat Brazilian Alex Tjong, 21-12, 21-16.
Second placed, Saina Nehwal has already made it the second round after getting a bye in the first.K. Srikanth and PV Sindhu will play their opening matches tomorrow.
In Mixed Doubles, the pair of Tarun Kona and Sikki Reddy bowed out today after losing their first round match.
