At Independence, we are constantly looking for ways to expand our offerings. Our recent efforts to do so have led to an exciting partnership with Laurel Springs, an accredited online private school with two decades of experience and a vast catalog of over 240 courses.

Like Independence, Laurel Springs prides itself on excellent student-teacher relationships and a strong academic foundation that will help prepare children for the next level and beyond. Laurel Springs' use of technology as a primary method of instruction made it an especially attractive option for Independence.

"With our strategic efforts to be a learner-centered community, it is natural that we would look at blended and online learning and how to use digital content to improve how we teach and what we offer," explained Bernadette Gilmore, Independence's Director of Academics and Curriculum.

To kick off this union, Independence offered Mandarin Chinese to its seventh- and eighth-grade students for the 2015-16 school year, and a pair of eighth graders chose to take part. This course replaces a traditional Independence World Language offering, such as Spanish, French and Latin.
