‘Overwatch’ Halloween Event Is (Sort-Of) Live: New Skins, Victory Poses, and a Crazy 4v1 Brawl
Overwatch: Halloween Terror dropped today, making good on Blizzard’s promise to keep the game updated, and best of all, free (after the initial purchase, of course). This update brings with it new skins, new victory poses and a bevy of user icons and character sprays.
Of course, getting all of these new Halloween-themed treats means that you have to get special Halloween boxes, which replace the normal loot boxes you get from leveling up. In a change from the frustrating Summer Olympics event, where everything was purely random, this time around, you can buy everything with in-game credits.
Costs for the various skins are increased of course. There are four legendary skins that correspond to the four elite enemies in the Brawl: Junkrat as Doctor Junkenstein, Mercy as The Witch, Reaper as…err…The Reaper, and Roadhog as Junkenstein’s Monster. Each of the legendary skins costs 3000 credits, however, so unless you’ve really been saving your pennies, you’ll still need to pray at the altar of the RNG.

Other characters also got revamped skins for the event. Ana, Bastion, Hanzo, Pharah, Reinhardt, Soldier: 76, Symmetra, and Zenyatta all got epic skins that cost 750 credits each. Each player also gets an R.I.P. victory pose that features their grave. Most show them punching or flexing their way out, but some have neat Easter Eggs. Genji’s sword has its little green dragon ghosting its way around it, and D.Va shows off her love for a certain orange nacho cheese flavored snack. (You have to spin the grave to see it in the preview/selection screen).
You can also purchase Halloween loot boxes directly from Blizzard, with prices starting at $1.99 for 2 loot boxes and going up to $39.99 for 50. Each box is guaranteed to have at least one holiday item, which can be anything from a spray to a coveted legendary skin.
Junkenstein’s Revenge
The PvE brawl is a great change of format for the Weekly Brawl, pitting four characters against Dr. Junkenstein in a castle defense scenario. Playing as Ana, Hanzo, McCree, or Soldier: 76, players battle waves of zombie robots (called zomnics) which are interspersed with boss fights. The first boss is Reaper, followed by Junkenstein’s Monster, and then Junkenstein himself. The last boss is Mercy, who revives all of them for a frantic end fight that will test your skills.
Patch Notes
These aren’t the only goodies that the holiday event brings. There is also a revamped player career profile screen, which makes it easier to track how well you are (or aren’t) doing. Some heroes received some much needed balancing (looking at you Ana and your Nanoboost). Ana’s afore mentioned ultimate’s cost was increased by 20 percent, and her biotic grenade had its area of effect increased to a 4-meter radius. Widowmaker can scope in a hair faster (up to 0.33 seconds from 0.50 seconds), and Junkrat’s RIP-Tire animation has been sped [...]
