Nothing gives you that needed lift like a clean and refreshing scent. However, there are many reasons that people don’t use commercial perfumes to refresh themselves. Not only are store bought perfumes expensive, but many contain chemicals and can cause allergies as well.
Homemade perfumes are the perfect way to feel fresher without rubbing questionable ingredients into your skin.
Refreshing Solid Perfume
Solid perfumes have many advantages; they are portable, moisturizing, shelf-stable and leave a light but long lasting scent. The following recipe is for a light and refreshing solid perfume that also will brighten your day with natural oils known to produce a happier and more energetic mood.
Ingredients
4 Tbsp beeswax, grated and then packed into the measuring spoon
4 Tbsp almond or olive oil
25-30 drops sandalwood essential oil
25-30 drops grapefruit essential oil
25-30 drops geranium essential oil
Instructions
Melt the beeswax on low heat in a double boiler. When it is completely melted, stir in the almond or olive oil. Take the mixture off the heat and stir in essential oils. Pour into a container that can be covered.
Whenever you need a lift or just want to smell fresher, rub this solid perfume into your wrists, on your neck, or other points. The sandalwood is relaxing while the grapefruit and geranium are both light and refreshing scents.
Refreshing Perfume Spray
This recipe will make a small bottle of spray that you can spritz on without fear of triggering allergies or smell sensitivities.
Ingredients
2 Tbs. almond or olive oil
4 Tbs. high proof vodka
2 Tbs. distilled water
6-8 drops lavender essential oil
15-20 drops orange or wild orange essential oil
9-12 drops geranium essential oil
Instructions
Mix these together in a bottle and use as you would any other perfume. Because this recipe uses water, discard if it becomes cloudy, has mold or shows other hints of spoiling.
