This month’s store spotlight is the newest member of our family, Santa Cruz Hydroponics – Scotts Valley (formerly Rooted Hydroponics).  This is a nice, small, warehouse-style store; tucked back from the main road.  Sarti, the manager, is there Monday thru Friday, and can answer any question, and help you with your garden big or small.  Sarti now has an even greater inventory and quick access to just about any product on the market to make sure you have what you need when you need it.  With Sarti’s help, we have definitely stepped it up a notch and will continue to do so in the SC Hydro tradition of providing you with the best selection, price and service period!

So without further ado… five questions for Sarti:

1.       How long have you been gardening?

I have been gardening for 20 plus years.

2.       What started your love of gardening?

One day on a kindergarten field trip we went to a community garden and after getting to taste fresh vegetables  I was hooked is all you could say!

3.       Where do you see the future of hydroponics going?  Where would you like to see it go?

I think more people are going to need to start growing their own food and in a much smaller space than traditionally required.  Hydroponics is a real easy and cost effective way to do this.  It would be nice, like in the old days when everybody had their own  fruit trees; if we all had to grow some of our own food.

4.       What makes your shop special?

Here at Rooted we have a smaller shop compared to some of our other stores, but we still manage to keep it full of all your needs.  It is tucked back off the street, so it is nice and quiet, which makes so for a relaxing and stress-free experience.

5.       What is the most interesting thing you have learned while in the hydroponics industry?

That anybody can enjoy gardening.  After many years of work in the industry, I have seen all kinds of interesting people.  One thing they all have in common, is the love of seeing  something start from a seed and turn in to a beautiful  fruit ,vegetable, tree ,or flower…

**Bonus Question:  If you had a pet unicorn, what would its name be?

Vermicorn, because I would compost the poo and grow me a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end!
