I’m going to get all wild and crazy on you today and skip my usual weekend recap this week. My weekend was pretty fun, but it definitely wasn’t exciting enough to deserve an entire post.
Instead of my weekend recap, I’m going to keep it lighthearted (when am I ever dark anyway?) and bring you a post featuring some of the best beauty trends for the fall season.
Since I’ve already mentioned it about 1,001 times in the past two weeks, I’m really looking forward to the autumn months. As much as I love my sundresses, shorts, and tanned skin, I am ready to focus on beauty trends this season.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have been pouring over some of the latest fall fashion magazines lately and learned a few things about what we can expect to see in the beauty world for the next few months.
Let’s start with the lips…
It looks like we’re in for another season of bright lip shades- especially in red. Similar to the spring and summer beauty fads, shades of scarlet, magenta, and maroon will be everywhere this season.
This makes me very happy because I am dying to bust out two of my favorite lipstick shades- Ravishing and Plumful. I’m also loving all of the NARS Cosmetics’ radiant lip shades.
If your lips on are the thinner side, you can outline them with a lip pencil in a matching red hue to accentuate the shape of your mouth and make it appear more prominent, then color it in with your red shade of choice.
Sporting bright red lips can be kind of scary for some people, so if they aren’t your thing, there is a range of other subtle shades of red lip colors available this season, varying from light, soft pinks to prominent, deep, dark cherry reds. And you may be happy to know that beauty experts are also emphasizing natural makeup looks by using simple neutral colors on the lips paired with a fresh face and dramatic, extreme lashes and brows combined with softly smudged eyeliner.
And speaking of the eyes…

The cat-eye trend is just as popular as ever it seems. I am admittedly horrible about creating this look, but you can attempt to duplicate it by using dark eyeliner to create the retro flicked-up effect, which features a tight, outline with light smudging, and dark liner. There are also a ton of tutorials on YouTube that can help!
I think it looks so chic paired with a natural face (as seen above on the gorgeous Lauren Conrad) and audacious accessories such as a matching scarf or jewelry.
If you aren’t into sporting eye makeup, you can still draw attention to your eyes with the season’s popular trend of wearing thick, prominent eyebrows. If you can’t grow your brows, feel free to pencil them in—just don’t overdo it unless you want to look like Bert from Sesame Street.
There seems to be a bit of a clash between the bold trends in eye and lip wear, but I kind of like it that way. The combination of eye-catching colors and subtle, simple shades allows you to highlight your best facial features. And frankly, I am not so sure that I could pull off a look that was entirely bold and vibrant anyway!
It will be really pretty to add some extra color to your eyes (maybe with some of those new colored mascaras that are popping up everywhere?) while keeping the rest of your look basic for a natural, yet striking look. Whether you include a dash of blush in a bright shade (you know this is totally my thing!) or lipstick in a daring red hue, fall’s beauty looks are all about vivacious, lustrous colors that pop.
And while I am normally not into trends, I’ve just been feeling like I need to spruce up my look a little bit more lately with a mini makeover. Personally, I think fall is the perfect time to do just that!
What trends are you most excited to wear this fall?
Have a great day!
