The group that runs a hotel that new world tennis number one Andy Murray owns has said it is also going to run a major golf resort in Scotland.
ICMI will manage the historic Ury House in Aberdeenshire on behalf of developer FM Group, which is converting the mansion into a luxury 50-room boutique and spa, which should open in 2020. The multi-million pound resort will feature a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course that FM Group says will be a ‘mecca to golfers’.
In 2013 Andy Murray bought Cromlix House in Perthshire. It reopened as a luxury hotel in 2014 and has been run by ICMI.
The present Ury House was designed by architect John Baird and dates from 1855. It was later extended in 1884 by Alexander Ross. After falling into disrepair, Ury House had its roof removed by the then owners in 1959 to avoid the payment of rates on the property. The building was placed in the ‘high risk’ category of the Buildings at Risk Register in 1990.
Norbert Lieder, managing director of ICMI, said: “Ury Estate is going to become one of the UK’s top resorts. Our intention is to develop a location for people who live on the estate, golfers, the local community and visitors from around the world. As well as individually designed bedrooms and suites, there will be a clubhouse, restaurant and conference centre.
“I believe there is a real need for a resort of this quality in the north east. We are already working closely with FM Group on the interior layout, design and customer offer.”
In the region of 90 low density, high quality houses are also planned as part of the golf development.
A spokesman for FM Group added: “The region now has a fantastic offering that will help make Aberdeenshire a mecca for golfers from around the world.”
