The Met Ball is one of the fashion world’s most anticipated events of the year; overseen by Anna Wintour this year, it never disappoints bringing together our favourite designers, our favourite styles and our favourite celebrities- it is always fabulous. This year, was as exciting as ever- following last years ‘punk’ theme, the styles and outfits returned to elegant and delicate. With looks ranging from beautiful ball gowns to edgy crop top combinations, it is almost impossible to select the best dressed.

One thing that was noticeable this year, however, was the buzz surrounding ‘power couples,’ in other words, celebrity couples that embrace their status as fashion icons and equally, earn it. The Beckhams looked stylish yet elegant in matching white outfits- which if worn by anyone else, could have looked perhaps a little much, but they looked stunning. Also, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds caused excitement amongst crowds, not only with their gorgeous style, but their genuine infatuation with one another. Finally, of course, Beyonce and Jay-Z managed to steal the limelight, as they always do. Jay-Z rocked a white jacket and bow tie, whilst Beyonce wore a black, revealing gown. She paired this with a simple hair-style and a beautiful black veil, proving veil accessories can be made your own on any ocassion.

Of course, there was an endless list of enviable gowns, from Sarah Jessica Parker’s to Alexa Chung’s, the women really stepped up this year. However, there were also some two-piece outfits which deserve our fashion attention. Emma Stone, proved that red heads really can wear any colour, in her two-tone pink crop top and skirt which looked feminine but also effortless. Additionally, Rihanna wowed in a Stella McCartney white cropped top and skirt, looking angelic yet edgy. Meanwhile, her recent best friend and fashion’s favourite British model Cara Delevigne also looked stunning in a Stella McCartney ensemble; a revealing black cropped, cross over top with elegant white suit trousers- proving balls aren’t simple gown occasions, but general fashion occasions. Celebrities all brought their own edge to their outfits- one of the many reasons we love the Met Ball!
