Almost 2 hours of Gaming entertainment.
Sony has saved its biggest guns for the Tokyo Game Show, and it looks to be well worth the wait. We’re going to be looking at sequels we haven’t seen in nearly a decade. Sony has always been known for surprising fans with older titles from Japan, and making us miss our childhoods as gamers.
However what makes them such a threat is the fact that their RPG’s, and adventure titles can’t be rivaled compared to their competitors.
Shuhei Yoshida didn’t seem too worried about Microsoft gaining Tomb Raider as an exclusive title for the Xbox One, and now we know why. Sony has had their ace in the hole the entire time, in the form of over 40 titles ready to launch all the way into 2015.
Let’s check out and talk about the titles announced in their pre- TGS conference, and you can even check out the entire conference below in the video.
Zettai Zetsubou Shoujo: Dangan-Ronpa
It’s basically a spin-off and in between title to Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. We don’t know if there’s a Western or European release date as of yet, but we can at least hope for a PSN release.
Phantasy Star Nova
The last time we’d heard about Phantasy Star was that the PS Vita was getting Phantasy Star 2: Online. Whether or not that is still happening is up in the air, for now we were presented with a new trailer for the classic action RPG. It comes to Japan in November, but has not been confirmed for worldwide release yet.
Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3
This title will be coming to 3DS and Vita in Japan in December. There’s no mention of an international release, and we can certainly understand why. For one, Koei wouldn’t really want to overload the market with too many games.
Knowing that a new Warriors Orochi, as well as an Samurai Warriors title is coming, it would be too much. However, the success of their previous installments on Nintendo consoles was less than inspiring. It will be interesting to see how this installment fairs on the New Nintendo 3DS.
There was very brief mention of a new Way of the Samurai title, and Luminous arc: Infinity. Given that these two weren’t talked heavily upon, or showcased with grand appeal, leads us to believe they’ll just be filler titles for the season, and not heavy hitters. Way of the Samurai 3, was a failure to UFO, and many people were tired of the simplicity that didn’t change from the first title.
The Vita will soon be able to support themes, which will be donwloadble from the PlayStation Store. Freedom Wars and Danganronpa examples were shown, but other titles are on the way, including Phantasy Star Nova. Themes change the background, icons and even music. Themes will become available as of firmware update 3.30, which was not dated. The only thing that we need now is the Music library updated so we can play our favorite tunes, or playlist in the background as we play online or solo.
Sony also promised new Vita hardware models with engraving, themed to various Vita games. There’s also going to be a light pink and white version in November, for Love Otome—which is a romance game. Hopefully this game will stay a Japan exclusive, as in Europe, and the U.S. fans don’t really fit into the demographic designed for these types of titles.
Sony also announced that, over 100 new Vita games will be released in Japan by the end of March 2015, bringing the grand total in that region to 600 releases to date. In their other regions, we’re still behind in the market race, but if the TGS proves correctly, we’ll be catching up soon.
Everybody’s (Hot Shots) Golf
We’ll find more out about this title in the New Year, but it doesn’t look too shabby. The only thing we can hope for is more inclusion with Playstation characters, or even more in depth customization as we saw with Modnation Racers.
God Eater 2: Rage Burst
God Eater 2: Rage Burst is coming to PS4 and Vita, and is coming to Japan as well. It’s been quite a while since we last heard about the sequel to the hit PSP game
The Coup de Grace, had to be when Square Enix took the stage for their presentation. They announced a new Dragon Quest title for the PS4! It’s coming out in 2015, and is being developed by Omega Force (Dynasty Warriors team), and it couldn’t have been a more perfect announcement.
We haven’t seen Dragon Quest on a Playstation title since 2005, and it’s return is highly anticipate. Fans of the iconic series have caught wind, and are speculating wildly about the new features!
These are just some of the hottest titles being developed, and going to be showcased at TGS. If you have one you’re looking forward to watch the announcement below, and talk to us about it in the comments!
