Today is the kick off of another challenge at Frilly and Funkie. Our hostess is Cec and she has a tough challenge for us - create a vintage piece that is entirely monochromatic! Cec wants to see a project that uses basically one colour and its various hues and tones - a little white or cream can be added but unless that is the main colour, it needs to be just an accent.
I started my project with this Tim Holtz sentiment stamp because I felt limited and knew I would have to be creative to produce a piece that I was happy with. I already had blue in mind, but it seems that most of my DT sisters were also channeling blue! On a piece of white CS, I stamped images from the Damask set with Wendy Vecchi's Cornflower Blue archival ink then blended Faded Jeans DI across the entire panel (no white, remember?). I used the new Doily texture fade to create the bottom layer in my central cluster. It was sponged with Faded Jeans after it was embossed and then fussy cut out. Then I cut the doily die cut from an old Prima die and sprayed it with Faded Jeans Distress Spray Stain. Next came my flower - one layer of white burlap (the burlap was painted on the back with a liberal coat of Multi Medium Matte which allowed it to stay together after being die cut). It was also sprayed lightly with Faded Jeans Distress Spray Stain. Next layer up is another Tattered Florals cut from cream colored canvas and also sprayed with Faded Jeans Distress Spray Stain. The top layer was cut from white CS with the Tiny Tattered Floral die and again it was sprayed with Tattered Jeans distress spray stain. It has a flat back pearl as the center which was colored blue with a Copic Marker. I used the same marker to color the gem end of the gem clip. To add a little interest to the panel, I used the new Correspondence stamp set and stamped several stamps using Cobalt Archival Ink.
I had a 5.5x5.5 card shell already prepared but the size of my finished front panel required another layer between it and the card front. My main panel was too small to fit on it without another layer in between. I didn't really have another blue that I could use for it so I cut 3 of the Spellbinders Royal Love dies from white CS and sprayed them very lightly with Faded Jeans. They became the layer that my card front is mounted on. I did use a layer of craft foam between my card front and the die cuts.
That's it. No special techniques this week. Just stamping, inking, embossing and die cutting. And for the dreaded monochromatic card, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
