Samsung discounts Galaxy S3 and Note 2 to make room for new devices

Samsung has always been pretty pocket-friendly with its handests, offering up a selection of smartphones for nearly every budget. But this is one of the best we've seen in ages. The company's current Galaxy S3 just dropped to one cent over at Amazon.

You can score the deal by purchasing the phone directly through Amazon and signing up for a new two-year agreement through Sprint. Additionally, the Galaxy Note 2 phablet is also discounted on Amazon at $139.99 (this excludes the white model, which costs an additional $30).

It should be noted that we're likely seeing these steep discounts due to Samsung prepping its upcoming Galaxy S4 smartphone, slated to launch sometime this summer. We heard just this morning that the company will likely unveil the new Android-based handset on March 15. The official launch date is still up in the air, and could either be May or June.

Keep in mind, that everything about the Galaxy S4 at this point is pure speculation. We're expecting the new Android handset to run on 4.2 Jelly Bean. It will likely have a beefy 5-inch 1080p full HD Super AMOLED display and a 3,100 mAh battery. The S4 will offer both a front- and rear-facing camera at 2-megapixels and 13-megapixels, respectively.

Samsung's Galaxy lineup has been wildly popular from the start, but it will still have to take every possible step to keep up with Apple's upcoming iPhone 6. Relying on less expensive models may not cut it this time around, as it's highly rumored that Apple may experiment with a cheaper price tag on its new iPhone at launch. On top of that, the Cupertino, Calif. company could further challenge Samsung by releasing its own iOS-powered "phablet" (a niche that is currently filled by Samsung's Note and Note 2).
