agree, UK should switch to driving on right hand side of road, although apart from a few things I find no problem driving a LHD in UK, and a RHD in France In fact on some French roads it is safer driving a RHD.
It has always been hinted at that the reason hire companies were not keep on their cars crossing borders was the insurance, but when I was last in Beziers picking up hire car, I noticed at least one Spanish registered hire car in the car park, and at least one on the road out of the airport, so think it is more to do with which side the steering heel is on.
Wonder if the hire companies have done any proper research to see if people might be happy to hire a LHD car in UK to drive across to France.
I have hired a couple of vans in UK to drive in France. Most companies make it difficult by insisting you sort out insurance etc, and still add on a premium, but I found a company that did all that and they are expanding .
Would suggest flying to UK, hiring a car or van in UK .Company I used is Jolly Good Van Hire company http://www.jollygoodvanhire.co.uk/ .
