It's no secret that Adam and I really strive to lead healthy, active lives and that we set health goals and try to make healthy choices. In fact, we devoted an entire "Call to Action" to getting healthy and staying fit when we relaunch this month. Prior to meeting Adam, I must confess that an "active" lifestyle didn't really appeal to me much. I mean, I wanted to be healthy much I also wanted to lay on the couch all weekend and watch SATC reruns.

These days, our weekends are a little different. Well, kind of. Being with Adam has taught me something called, "Balance." Look, I'll be the first to admit that I don't always love working out. I truly envy those girls who wake up every morning eager to hit the gym and get their sweat on. But the cold hard truth is that I'm not that girl.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the results of a good workout. Recently, Adam and I have embarked on a strength training journey and I must admit that I've never felt or looked better (Well, except when I was 16 and weighed like 6 lbs.) More than that though, I feel a sense of pride when I finish a set of deadlifts and totally kicked its ass!

Back to that balance thing though -- Healthy doesn't just happen in the gym. Healthy is a way of life. It means coming home and deciding not to immediately flop down on the sofa. It means spending a Saturday morning binging on Netflix and a Saturday afternoon at the dog park.

Adam and I are really blessed to live in Little Rock. This is a city that makes an active lifestyle easy. It also helps to have a Walgreens right around the corner from our new house that will literally give us Balance Reward points for getting off our bums -- not not just for hitting the weights... (though that counts too!) Their healthy choices program quite literally rewards us for leading the life we already are striving to live.

For example, we woke up last Saturday morning and visited Little Rock Animal Village (the local animal shelter) to check on two pups that we found back on July 31st. They have been fixed and have their shots, and we are now trying to find them a home or a foster home in order to prevent them from being put down. In the meantime, we thought it would be fun to take them out in one of the many play areas at the shelter and let them stretch their legs a bit. They didn't seem to mind and we didn't either since we were able to log in some puppy play time on our Walgreens App on our phones and get Balance Reward points.

Next up was the Big Dam Bridge. Yup, you heard that right. The Big Dam Bridge. This bridge is awesome, one-of-a-kind and Adam and I have been meaning to head back that way. We've been plenty of times but not since we decided to keep our "foster pup" Bernie. So, we made a quick pitstop by Walgreens to pick me up a new water bottle (one that helps me monitor how much water I'm getting daily - by the way, I get Reward Points for that too!) and a leash for our newest family addition -- Bernie!

Blue or Black Leash? Decisions, Decisions...

Psst! I went with that purple one in my hand and I love it!

Afterwards, we went home and wrangled up our crew -- Deacon, Parker, and Bernie -- and headed to the Big Dam Bridge. This bridge is the largest pedestrian-only bridge in North America and it rocks! It is 4226 ft in length and it has killer views all the time, but especially near sunset. Just check it out!

Afterwards, the pups were thoroughly worn out and we were tired too from just keeping up with them. So we logged our latest activity on the Walgreens to claim our Balance Rewards points and then headed home for a little detox with Netflix.

That's the key guys -- it's about balance. I truly want to lead a healthy active lifestyle, but for me, that means not constantly fretting over gym time or freaking out about every last calorie I consume. Overall, I know that I am making smart choices on a daily basis and that ultimately, those choices are paying off in a BIG way! I really appreciate  the healthy choices program from Walgreens because it doesn't just encourage me to buy their products or visit their store -- it encourages me to be the BEST version of myself! And when you think about it, can we ever really be encouraged to be anything better than that?

What healthy choices do you make daily? Do you want to come to Little Rock and walk the Big Dam Bridge with me? Oh come on! I know you do!
