Mr. Banana, can you please tell us more about your life?

I was born to an upper middle class family in Quebec. I did lots of sports growing up. I remember two instances when in my childhood where I heard voices. First I think I was 14 after reading an article in magazine on Greek mythology it was evident that I would be travelling, the other time it happened it showed me that I would do unusual thing that could potentially inspire people. I think I was 16 just before leaving home. I graduated from high school then left. First to the west of Canada, then I went down to Mexico central and South America. I learnt Spanish and lived as a handicraft maker for a bit before ending up into a circus conference by “coincidence”. I remember then being too shy to do anything and only when I came back to the north west of USA that I found a job in a luxury resort at night. I would hide and juggle potatoes all night. I then went on to China, Australia where I started to live from small juggling shows after having enough of depending on a scheduled job. I did fairly well and joined a traveling carnival for a while. Then came South East Asia. I experience a rebirth as I went to a rainbow gathering which was very strong for me. It showed me that it was possible to live alternative lifestyle. I went on traveling around meeting always just the right person to show me more skills.

I ended up running out of money and decided to stop in Vietnam and to train in the National Vietnamese circus there. I was also teaching English at night after training in private center across Hanoi.

Most of my circus skills came from that time. I kept developing those basics throughout the years in my own way. After finishing 6 months of circus I was approach by a Taiwanese circus wanting to give me a contract that I refused. I felt this circus life routine could go on forever so it moved me into changing direction. I kept my skills and heard the call to India. I came to India and fell in love with the colors the smells and the people. I got to feel at home with other foreigners that fell in love for the same reasons.

I ended up spending a season in GOA that changed my life. It was the first place in all that time of traveling that I allowed myself to go back to. It was a second rebirth for me in a very creative way. This place allowed artist, artisans, and alternative life style people, and freaks, musicians to share and to feel normal in this growing community. So between the seasons in GOA I would sometime go to other places in India or the Middle East (mostly Israel) and Europe. When I went to Europe for the first time I fell in love with the street culture. I could do shows practically everywhere. Europe is quite free in this way. so it was a beautiful school for me. I got to learn the street psychology and to make a lot of shows. So I now spend the summer season (4month) in Europe and the winter season in Goa (6 month) and the rest of the year I go for interesting project here and there ( Malaysia, Macau, Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, California, Canada.) I am living from shows since 8 years and it took me to over 40 countries…

What made you do Interactive Comedy?

I was at a crossroad many times in my life, where I could have made a different decision and I would have a totally different life altogether. I always had been drawn towards the unknown. In the beginning I guess I was drawn to it because of the thrill of anything “New”… In the past few years, I became aware of the Miracle that happens in the unknown. The fact of letting go fully in life has allowed magic to spring up from nowhere. Magic or Miracle don’t come out of the known. You have to step out of the comfort zone to experience it whatever it may be… I guess what I do for a living originates from a strong desire to experience this magic that comes when one is truly one with life, however the many forms it can take.  Interactive Comedy makes any art forms alive.
