Halter Bikinis

All hail the halter top. Triangle tops have made way for the more conservative creations, though many designers tried their best to make halters just as risqué as their revealing counterparts via sheer inserts and crocheted cut-outs.

Tassels

While we’re not entirely convinced of their practicality when it comes to swimwear, tassels adorned a wide variety of suits this season. Big or small, monochrome or multicolored, the swinging accent was a common way to spice things up.

Side Cut-Outs

One-pieces had a little something on the side this season courtesy of some well-placed cut-out accents.

Straps

Strappy took on a whole new meaning as designers attempted to incorporate straps into multiple swimwear scenarios. There was practically no region left uncovered, from bikini top to bikini bottom and even a few one-pieces got wrapped up in the trend.

Reimagined Rash Guards

Surf’s up was a big rallying cry on the runway this season, but with a bit of a twist. Typical rash guards were given a fashion-forward upgrade in the form of crop tops and peekaboo panels.

Creative Cover-Ups

Gone are the days when a simple sarong was all you needed to cover up your suit. Now designers have fashioned all manner of layers, including sheer pants, open-weave tops and long-sleeve shrugs.

Plunging One-Pieces

How low can they go? Designers attempted to answer that age-old question by taking the plunge into uncharted territory, from just above the waist to well below the navel.

Racy Lingerie

Perhaps better suited for the bedroom than the beach, quite a few swimsuits set pulses racing. See-through sections, frilly detailing and loads of lace made us question just how many of these are water-appropriate.

Wedding White

While we saw our fair share of bright colors, stark white was the standout shade. Some brands even topped off their crisp creations with veils because the bride has to ditch the wedding dress at some point.

When it comes to Fashion Week in places like New York, London, Milan and Paris, they’re usually ahead of the curve by shining a light on fashions for the following season, forcing us to pine for a shift in temperature to put the trends we see up on the runway into practice. That’s not the case with Miami Swim Week, however.
