Paris, France – Paris’s haute couture calendar became dramatically more exciting this season. This is due to decisions made on December 16, 2016 by the body that rules over the haute couture establishments. Among those decisions came the one to finally invite Georges Hobeika onto the official calendar.
Georges Hobeika’s road to showing on the official haute couture calendar in Paris has been long. Lasting over 12 years, at times this writer believed that it may never happen for him and others.
Let me speak plainly on the matter. This recognition is well deserved but MUCH TOO LONG OVERDUE. The interminable wait is wholly unrelated to his talent, but rather to others factors that we shan’t indulge in at this time. Now let us move on to celebrating this momentous occasion by speaking on the merits of his new work for Spring/Summer 2017.
Georges Hobeika seized upon every opportunity afforded to him with the honor of having his work finally being officially recognized. We joined him at a beautiful setting situated in rue de l’Ecole de Médecine. From start to finish we were treated to sumptuous looks dominated by evening gowns, but that also included several pants ensembles and a healthy dose of cocktail dresses. Each has been treated to the elaborate and ornate embroideries conceived by Georges Hobeika and brought into existence by the skill of his atelier workers. The work is achieved on fine silk organza, silk chiffons, silk crepe, and silk tulles.
This writer admits to not being a fan of the flat shoes. For me haute couture deserves heels that are “haute” in height! And “YES” I too admit that at times the endless parade elaborate and sparkling embroideries is a little overwhelming, but not so much when compared to his EXQUISITE work done in both his Fall/Winter 2015/16 couture and in his Fall Winter 2016/17 couture collections. But gee! It’s a celebration and Georges Hobeika has earned the privilege to observe it in the way that he sees fit.
