I’m sure those of you who follow at least one of my channels most definitely didn’t miss the fact that I flew to Marrakech in the very beginning of the year as the trip ended up in hundreds, maybe even thousands of pictures and some of them already made it to the public via my Instagramaccount. Today is the day many of you have been waiting for – even I – the big Marrakech Travel Guide is about to start. Due to your response under this Post I decided to split the guide into three categories in order not to slay you with a mass of pictures and text at once. The two further parts will follow directly after this one so that you don’t have to wait for too long to have all the information needed if you plan to go to Marrakech – what you really should ;)
By the way, if you stay in a riad it’s common to pay only when you check out and ideally cash in Moroccan dirham. As you do the booking online, you will have to leave your credit card details so you might think it’s charged from the credit card, but most of the riads don’t and ask you to pay cash. So before you leave, either check if the amount has been booked from your card and if not, bring enough dirhams or write an email to the riad to ask about the payment.
Ich bin mit sicher, dass niemand, der einen meiner Kanäle verfolgt, verpasste, dass ich Anfang des Jahres nach Marrakesch flog – denn der Trip endete in hunderten, wenn nicht tausenden von Bildern, wobei einige ihren Weg an die Öffentlichkeit bereits über meinen Instagramaccount fanden. Heute ist es endlich soweit, der grosse Marrakesch Reiseführer startet! Aufgrund eurer Rückmeldungen unter diesem Post entschied ich mich dazu, ihn in drei Teile zu splitten, um diese ausführlicher gestalten zu können und euch nicht mit einem riesigen Post zu erschlagen. Die zwei weiteren Teile folgen allerdings direkt nacheinander, sodass du nicht lange warten musst, um alle Infos zu haben, wenn ihr eine Reise nach Marrakesch plant – was ihr unbedingt machen solltet ;)
Übrigens, in den Riads ist es üblich, erst vor Ort und bestenfalls bar in marokkanischen Dirham zu bezahlen. Wenn du die Buchung online vornimmst, wirst du – wie auch sonst bei Hotelbuchungen – deine Kreditkarte angeben müssen. Es kann allerdings gut sein, dass der Betrag gar nicht abgebucht wird, weil Barbezahlung bevorzugt wird. Bevor du also losreist, guck schnell auf deine Kreditkartenabrechnung, um zu sehen, ob der Betrag abgebucht wurde und wenn nicht, nimm genügend Dirham mit oder schreib dem Riad direkt kurz, wie sie die Bezahlung handhaben.
Riad Yasmine
The boutique hotel Riad Yasmine is situated in the heart of the Medina (old town), only 5 minutes by foot away from the souks and some of the best restaurants and sights. Thanks to Instagram (at least I claim so) the riad became pretty famous and is now always booked out. It’s really no surprise if you have a look at the beauty of this inner yard and pool, the perfect location and the fact that there are only seven rooms and suites which are even available for an incredibly nice price (starting from 90€/night for a room and 125€/night for a suite, depending on the season of course). So if you want to spend your Marrakech days in this riad, make sure to book very(!) early! As we planned our trip very last-minute (one week before take-off) we didn’t have a chance to get a room here but luckily the owners were kind enough to let us come for a visit so we came and enjoyed some moroccan tea. Guys! Beware, the obsession potential of that tea is very high. I’m sure I drunk at least 5 liters (or even ten?) during our stay! ;)
Das Boutique Hotel Riad Yasmine liegt im Herzen der Medina (Altstadt), bloss 5 Gehminuten von den Souks und einigen der besten Restaurants und Sehenswürdigkeiten entfernt. Unter anderem dank Instagram (zumindest behaupte ich das jetzt einmal so) wurde es innert kurzer Zeit bekannt und ist seither ständig ausgebucht. Kein Wunder, bei der Schönheit des Innenhofes, der perfekten Lage und dem Fakt, dass es bloss Sieben Zimmer und Suiten gibt, die dazu noch günstig zu haben sind (ab 90€/Nacht für Zimmer und 125€/Nacht für Suiten, je nach Saison natürlich). Wer hier seinen Marrakesch Urlaub verbringen möchte, der muss also zwingend frühzeitig buchen. Da wir unsere Reise allerdings sehr kurzfristig (Eine Woche vor Abreise) buchten, waren keine Zimmer mehr frei, wird durften aber netterweise für einen Besuch vorbeikommen und habe uns hier marokkanischen Tee gegönnt. Achtung, Suchtpotential hoch! Während des Trips habe ich bestimmt fünf (oder zehn?) Liter davon getrunken. ;)
Riad Jardin Secret
The Riad Jardin Secret is a true insider tip. Entering this riad you won’t fine the usual pool in the middle of the inner yard, but instead you will find yourself in a wonderful, little jungle and will be welcomed by the two lovely riad owners Cyrielle and Julien and their two super duper cute little dogs. This green oasis is placed in 5 minutes walking distance to the souks which is another big plus. But again, you have to be early to get a room at this magical place as there are only five rooms and suites to book which makes it quite obvious why this riad is constantly booked out. One more special thing about the Riad Jardin Secret (beside the doggies) is the rooftop terrace with the romantic swing. The rate per night starts at 110€ for a room in the low season but will be thrice that high during high season.
Das Riad Jardin Secret ist ein tatsächlich ein toller Geheimtipp. Hier findet sich zwar nicht – wie sonst so üblich – ein Pool in der Mitte des Innenhofes. Stattdessen wird man von einem kleinen Urwald, zwei süssen kleinen Hunden und zwei überaus herzlichen Riad-Besitzern Cyrielle und Julien empfangen. Gelegen ist die grüne Oase bloss 5 Gehminuten von den Souks entfernt, ein weiterer grosser Pluspunkt also. Auch hier gilt «Der Schnellere ist der Geschwindere», denn bei nur Fünf Zimmern und Suiten ist es nicht erstaunlich, dass das Riad im Herzen der Medina ständig ausgebucht ist. Kleines besonderes Extra dieses Schätzchens ist (neben den zwei kleinen Hunden) übrigens die Dachterrasse mit der romantischen Schaukel. Die Rate pro Nacht fängt bei 110€ für ein Zimmer in der Low Season an, verdreifacht sich allerdings in der Hochsaison.
Ryad Dyor
Ryad Dyor was the riad we actually chose to stay. While desperately looking for THE perfect accommodation we quickly realized all the riads I already knew (the upper ones) are fully booked. Although Ryad Dyor (which I didn’t know before my online research) also serves not more than seven rooms and suites, we were lucky enough to book a suite here for around 200€/night. The riad is placed only five minutes by foot from the souks, is maintained by a very kind and helpful manager and staff and well, optically it is as beautiful as all those riads which are already well-known thanks to Instagram. So far the Ryad Dyor is truly an insider’s tipp and therefor maybe a good choice if you’re coming to Marrakech late-minute and look for a perfect riad to stay at. ;) Oh, and the breakfast here is incredibly delicious.
Das Ryad Dyor war das Riad, das wir schlussendlich wählten, nachdem wir verzweifelt nach DER perfekten Unterkunft suchten und alle mir bis dahin bekannten Riads bereits ausgebucht waren. Obwohl das Riad, das ich vorher übrigens nicht kannte und erst durch meine Internetrecherche entdeckte, ebenfalls bloss sieben Zimmer und Suiten anbietet, hatten wir diesmal Glück und uns ohne zu überlegen eine Suite für knapp 200€/Nacht gebucht. Das Riad liegt knapp 5 Gehminuten von den Souks entfernt, wird von wahnsinnig freundlichem Manager und Personal betreut und ist optisch genau so schön, wie viele der bereits durch Instagram berühmten Riads. Aktuell ist es also noch ein Geheimtipp für alle, die kurzfristig nach Marrakech, aber trotzdem ein tolles Ryad möchten. ;) Ach und das Frühstück hier ist auch richtig, richtig gut!
Riad Dar Alfarah
One thing that was clear from the very beginning is that I want to stay in different riads while in Marrakech. As we wanted to do a trip to the dessert at the last two days of our trip but haven’t heard back from the camp for a while – so we didn’t know if it will work – we were looking for a cheaper riad, so that it wouldn’t hurt our bank account to much if we pay one night for nothing. The Riad Dar Al Farah was our choice because I found the pool area quite nice and well I think we didn’t event pay 100€/night. By comparison with the Ryad Dyor and other luxury riads, the rooms here were quite sparsely-furnished but we had everything we needed. So, I think for all those of you who are like me and anyway only need the room to sleep because you’re exploring a foreign place all day, this hotel might be a good choice because the cost-benefit ratio is amazing. The Riad Dar Al Farah is situated a bit further away from the souks than the previous riads (20 minutes by foot) but instead it’s near the famous Palais de la Bahia and my personal favorite food spot in Marrakech: the Cafe Clock (more about that tomorrow)
Da ich für Marrakesch unbedingt mehrere Riads bewohnen wollte und wir einplanten, die letzten zwei Tage der Reise noch einen Abstecher in die Wüste zu machen, allerdings lange keine Rückmeldung von dem Camp bekamen, entschieden wir uns für die letzten Tage ein günstiges Riad zu nehmen, bei dem es nicht so schlimm ist, wenn wir eine Nacht umsonst bezahlen. Das Riad Dar Al Farah wählten wir schlussendlich unter anderem wegen dem hübschen Poolbereich aber auch, weil wir nicht einmal 100€/Nacht zahlten. Im Vergleich zum Ryad Dyor und anderen Luxus Riads sind die Zimmer hier zwar spärlich eingerichtet, aber für alle, die eh ständig unterwegs sind und das Zimmer bloss zum Schlafen brauchen, eignet sich das Riad aufgrund des tollen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis allerdings wunderbar. Es befindet sich allerdings etwas weiter weg von den Souks (ca. 20 Minuten zu Fuss), dafür Nahe dem Palais de la Bahia und meinem persönlichen Lieblingscafe in Marrakech, dem Cafe Clock (dazu gibts bereits morgen mehr).
Riad de Tarabel
The Riad de Tarabel, situated in the middle of the medina, has been an insider’s tip of a friend living in Marrakech. It’s his very favorite riad, “a magical place”, he told. Well, of course I had to see that place with my own eyes! I must admit this riad is truly a gem and indeed different to the other I’ve seen because it managed to find a perfect balance between french elegance and the typical Moroccan interior style and therefor serves it’s very unique charm. The reason for that is the fact that the owner of the riad is an aristocrat from France. He even got (huge!) mural paintings from his french castle brought to the riad. Furthermore Riad de Tarabel is actually built of three riads in total but although only serves ten rooms and suites – so every guest will definitely find his private sphere in this spacious place. The rates start from 190€ in the low season and 210€ in high season. BUT what is also included is the airport transfer, all clothes getting ironed when you arrive and as much mint tea as you can drink ;) Sounds dream, right?
Das Riad de Tarabel, das im Herzen der Median liegt, wurde mir von einem Bekannten in Marrakesch wärmstens empfohlen – es sei bei weitem sein absolutes Lieblingsriad, ein magischer Ort. Das musste ich mit eigenen Augen sehen! Das Riad, das gekonnt den Spagat zwischen französischer Eleganz und traditionellem marrokanischem Einrichtungsstil schafft, hat wirklich seinen ganz eigenen Charme. Das liegt daran, dass der Besitzer ein Adeliger aus Frankreich ist. Für sein Riad hat er eigens riesige, Wandgemälde aus seinem Schloss in Frankreich einfliegen lassen, die man nun im Riad bewundern kann. Ausserdem umfasst das Riad de Tarabel drei Riads, die zusammengeschlossen wurden – bei bloss zehn Zimmer und Suiten herrscht hier also genügend Platz und Privatsphäre. Die Raten starten ab 190€ in der Low Season und 210€ in der High Season. ABER dafür ist der Flughafen Transfer inklusive, alle Kleider werden bei der Ankunft gebügelt und es gibt so viel Minztee, wie man drinken kann. ;) Klingt traumhaft, oder?
Royal Mansour
The Royal Mansour is probably one of the most famous luxury hotels in Marrakech. You will find it in the new town what means it takes you about 20 minutes to walk to the souks in the medina. What I found really special and loved about the hotel was that it really took up the culture of the city. So there are no usual hotel rooms but rather only riads in the typical Moroccan style meaning with lots of details and patterns. A centerpiece is most definitely the incredible spa area but well, what is also incredible is the stiff price. The “cheapest” riad starts from more than 1000€/night!
Das Royal Mansour ist eines der bekanntesten Luxus Hotels Marrakeschs. Es befindet sich in der Neustadt, das heisst, es müssen ca. 20 Gehminuten zu den Souks in der Medina eingeplant werden. Das besondere dabei ist, dass das Hotel die Kultur der Stadt wunderbar aufgenommen hat. So stehen den Gästen auch hier ausschliesslich Riads im typischen marrokanischen Stil – also mit jeder Menge Schnörkeleien und Mustern – zur Verfügung. Besonderes Herzstück des Hotels dürfte der stolze Spabereich sein. Stolz sind allerdings auch die Preise, denn das «günstigste» Riad startet hier bei über 1000€/Nacht!
La Mamounia
