What a week. A number of top players either went down with injuries (a majority of them longer than 1 week) or have other question marks heading into week 3. If you are the owner of Jamaal Charles, AJ Green, Ryan Mathews, Robert Griffin III, Adrian Peterson, Vernon Davis, Mark Ingram or Maurice Jones-Drew, you could and should be looking for some new additions to your roster.
There are a variety of options available to owners looking to replace injured stars. Hopefully you can work the waiver wire and find suitable replacements, but if you are too low in your league’s waiver order or already out of FAAB (free-agent acquisition budget) dollars, you’ve come to the right place.
The values below are based on a 50 point scale (50 being the highest value) from performance of this past week and relative values for the rest of the season. To use the table, find the value(s) for each player in a trade and then add up the total value of player/(s) on each side of the trade. If the values are equal, then the trade will be seen as an “equal” trade. An example of an “equal value trade would be (2) 20 point value players for a 40 point value player.

Buy Low:
Eddie Lacy (Green Bay Packers): Off to a very slow start in in 2014 (77 yards rushing and 29 yards receiving with 0 TDs on 30 total touches), things will get better for Lacy. His schedule will open up after this week’s matchup against a stout Lions defense with games against the Bears and Vikings. He will no doubt be more involved as he should now be fully “healthy” after his concussion in week 1. I would try to pick up Lacy from owners that are worried about his lack of usage after the first 2 weeks.
Potential Trade offer: Lacy for Frank Gore and TY Hilton
AJ Green (Cincinnati Bengals): Trading for an injured player. You must be crazy Steve! Hear me out on this one. Even if Green misses his week 3 matchup, he was already scheduled for a bye in week 4, and is looking to make a potential return in week 5. Green had a great game in week 1 (6 catches for 131 yards and 1 TD) and is THE target in Cincinnati. If your team is deep at wide receiver or running back, definitely try to make a deal with the Green owner before he comes back, and I would even overpay for him. Elite level talents like Green just don’t grow on trees or the waiver wire.
Potential Trade Offer: Green for Michael Floyd/ Keenan Allen and Fred Jackson
Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys): One of the most consistent players in the past 7 years (over 900 yards in 6 of the past 7 seasons), Witten is off to a slower than normal start with only 6 catches for 46 yards. However, one positive for Witten is the fact that he does have 13 targets through 2 games. As quarterback Tony Romo becomes more comfortable and in rhythm with his new offense, expect better numbers for Witten and the offense as a whole. I also do not expect the Dallas defense to nearly as stout as it has shown to be early in the season.
Potential Trade Offer: Witten for Dwayne Bowe or Chris Ivory
Sell High:
Percy Harvin (Seattle Seahawks): It’s only a matter of time. The walking MRI known as Percy Harvin has gotten off to a pretty strong start this season catching all 8 of his targets and also contributing in the rushing game with another 86 yards and a TD. The coaching staff in Seattle has committed to using Harvin to his fullest potential, but the question is how long will it last. Harvin has only played a full 16 game schedule once in his career (back in 2011). Also keep in mind that Seattle is still a run-first offense that will rely on the likes of Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson much more than Harvin.
Potential Trade Offer:Harvin for CJ Spiller
Darren Sproles (Philadelphia Eagles): One of the most electric players to start the season, Sproles has provided a big boost to the Eagles’ offense that was thought by some to struggle after losing speedster receiver DeSean Jackson. Sproles is currently 2nd among running backs in standard scoring leagues with nearly 100 yards rushing, but doing most of his damage through the passing game catching 11 passes for 166 yards. I don’t believe that Sproles will be any more valuable than he currently is, especially with the rash of injuries occurring this past week.
Potential Trade Offer: Sproles for Reggie Wayne/Kelvin Benjamin
Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers): The man who once dominated the tight end landscape with 7 straight years of at least 700 yards and 7 touchdowns, Gates has gotten off to a red hot start to 2014. He decimated the Seahawks defense with 3 touchdowns on 7 targets. While certainly still a mainstay in the Chargers offense with 17 targets through 2 games, Philip Rivers has a variety of other targets in a powerful Charger offense. Take advantage of this spike in productivity and upgrade one of your other starting positions.
Possible Trade Offer: Gates and Joique Bell for Andre Ellington
Again, the list and suggestions above are only a guide of values and potential trades, be creative and come up with your own proposals. Replace your injured/suspended stars and improve your teams for week 3.
