The Falcons lost to the Bengals and it wasn't pretty.

These tweet recaps were initially born of the pain and agony that was watching the Falcons ineptly struggle their way through games last season, so at least that prepared us well for the tone of this week's tweet recap.

There were a lot of Falcons fans in Paul Brown stadium, which was fun to see.

Look at those Julio jerseys! Rising Up in Cin!

@jeannathomas @alexmwelch game day!! pic.twitter.com/bLALVbyPBJ

— Tony Easterlin (@Tunacolata) September 14, 2014

Boy, did the defense ever look terrible.

Looks like Falcons bringing back that classic Falcons tackling technique. Jesus.

— FalconsNeedRing (@FalconsNeedRing) September 14, 2014

This is an embarrassing first drive for the defense.

— Kendall Jackson (@projectjax) September 14, 2014

Why do I fear this is going to be the motto of this season's defense?

THAT'S IT DEFENSE!!! OCCASIONAL RESISTANCE FTW!!!

— Matt (@FalconsM5) September 14, 2014

The Falcons bent but didn't break, holding the Bengals to a field goal after a less-than-stellar defensive series.

Bend, don't break. It's worked for the #Falcons, but there's been a lot of bend lately.

— Knox Bardeen (@KnoxonFox) September 14, 2014

If Andy Dalton weren't Andy Dalton and Mike Nugent hadn't completely imploded things would have been worse.

The Falcons biggest defensive playmaker so far is Andy Dalton's inability to connect with not-AJ Green.

— Matt (@FalconsM5) September 14, 2014

Meanwhile in Cleveland, the Saints were playing the Browns. Let's check in on how that was going for Saints fans.

Mean while in Cleveland the browns are up 7-0 and driving.

Top Ten Drinks to Consume While Watching the Saints Go 4-12

— Black & Gold Review (@BnGreview) September 14, 2014

It did seem like this might have been the game plan.

The Falcons key to success this year is wait until the Bengals are all injured and can't field 11 players on the field.

— Matt (@FalconsM5) September 14, 2014

I wish.

Is this a preseason game?

— FalconsNeedRing (@FalconsNeedRing) September 14, 2014

Dear Falcons, please take this under advisement.

tack·le /ˈtakəl/ noun. An act of seizing and stopping a player in possession of the ball by knocking them to the ground.

— WonderJaye (@WonderJaye) September 14, 2014

Surprise! /quiet sobbing

I didn't think the defense could look worse than it did last year. #ATLvsCIN

— Carla McClendon (@CarlaJevonne) September 14, 2014

Hey, what's going on with the Saints?

So I'm starting to think the Saints are just bad

— JW of La Familia (@MidwestATLFALC) September 14, 2014

The 2014 offensive line bore an uncanny resemblance to the 2013 offensive line.

Writing my get well soon card to Jake Matthews during half time. #ATLvsCIN

— Allen Strk (@Allen_Strk) September 14, 2014

Falcons better be happy Matt Ryan got up from that last hit.

— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) September 14, 2014

With one notable exception.

Hey.. At least Arthur is happy that the entire o-line went to pick Ryan up off the ground pic.twitter.com/fTbE4SdTLc

— Zach Klein (@ZachKleinWSB) September 14, 2014

One bright spot in an otherwise dismal day was Matt Ryan, once again, picking up yards with his legs.

Lots of pressure on Matt Ryan. But at least he's showing off those legs :)

— Knox Bardeen (@KnoxonFox) September 14, 2014

Matt Ryan what are you doing with your last 2 games of rushing. Unreal.

— Harrison Nayler (@HarrisonN17) September 14, 2014

We've gone over how rough things looked defensively. It wasn't much better on offense. It was actually about the same level of terrible.

Falcons offense is 1 for 6 on third down in the game.

— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) September 14, 2014

Bengals have 293 total yards. Falcons have 98.

— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) September 14, 2014

Bengals defense is doing great work out there, but it doesn't make this any less sad.

— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 14, 2014

Let's cling to this.

We'll always have week 1 Falcons fans.

— Grant Harrison (@grantharrison91) September 14, 2014

Speaking of, what's going on with the Saints?

Saints officially suck smh

— josh (@d_forcha) September 14, 2014

I don't even know what this tweet was in reference to specifically so I'm going to assume it was intended to describe the entire game.

We can't agree who to blame on that one, but suffice to say it sucked.

— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 14, 2014

What's going on with the Saints, though?

Falcons bar aka anti saints bar super turnt

— Rembert Browne (@rembert) September 14, 2014

Nevertheless, go browns

— Swaggy PhD (@Das_ProfX) September 14, 2014

*jumping around with the Browns fans* I know, I'm a goof. LOL

— WonderJaye (@WonderJaye) September 14, 2014

Sadly, this did not happen.

Please make another appearance, Bizarro world third quarter Falcons.

— Kendall Jackson (@projectjax) September 14, 2014

If only it were this simple.

HE FLINCHED, FALCONS WIN

— Rembert Browne (@rembert) September 14, 2014

Great question.

Are the Falcons trying to win?

— Jason Kirk (@JasonKirkSBN) September 14, 2014

I think we all have. Even Smitty, probably.

I think I've reached my cuss limit for the week #ATLvsCIN

— Kimberly (@TheFalconsDiva) September 14, 2014

I bet Smitty is going to try very hard to curse later. Look for badly placed, out-of-context curse words. #ATLvsCIN

— Shannan O (@shannanunc) September 14, 2014

But, hey, it's not over until it's over, right?

The Falcons are still in it. A TD here makes it a two possession game

— HometeamBrandonLeak (@Hometeam_BLeak) September 14, 2014

...Nevermind

— HometeamBrandonLeak (@Hometeam_BLeak) September 14, 2014

Sometimes it's good to focus on the bright side.

Well the defense did look like they needed practice. At least they're getting it! #ATLvsCIN #RiseUp

— Shannan O (@shannanunc) September 14, 2014

Positive Falcon things: my hate for Harry Douglas diminishes weekly, though not because of maturity but rather Lamar Holmes

— Steven Godfrey (@38Godfrey) September 14, 2014

Want a short and sweet recap of yesterday's game? Here you go.

☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ this defense

— Ronald T. Shields II (@MrShields2) September 14, 2014

This is just making me sick

— Amy Cearns (@AMOcearns) September 14, 2014

Nightmare game. Nightmare.

— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 14, 2014

Nevermind let's drop Harry Douglas down a well

— Steven Godfrey (@38Godfrey) September 14, 2014

Falcons gotta put Art Briles in charge of out-of-conference scheduling

— Jason Kirk (@JasonKirkSBN) September 14, 2014

Oh.

— Jenna Bannister #DBN (@JennaEarwood) September 14, 2014

In a just and decent world this would never be allowed to happen.

NO TEAM THAT REPEATEDLY PLAYS KE$HA IN THEIR STADIUM SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PROSPER FALCONS.

— Jeanna (@jeannathomas) September 14, 2014

Let me reiterate how poorly things went on both sides of the ball.

New nickname proposal for the #Falcons defense: The Path of Least Resistance. @TheFalcoholic

— David Allen Jones (@j_bacardi) September 14, 2014

The saddest thing about this whole thing is the score doesn't even reflect how badly the Falcons are being dominated!

— Sheena Phelps (@SheenaPhelps) September 14, 2014

All I can say is that I hope this week is the outlier. Madness lies the other way.

— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 14, 2014

Falcons need to focus on Thursday's game. A victory Will give them 2 division wins and 2 NFC wins. This is OVA.

— HometeamBrandonLeak (@Hometeam_BLeak) September 14, 2014

It's time to focus on Tampa Bay, because I don't want to talk about the Bengals anymore.

@TheFalcoholic if you can go 2-0 in the division by Friday, will mean more than a win vs an afc team.

— Josh B (@jdb426) September 14, 2014

Four days until Tampa. Four days until Tampa. Four days until Tampa.

— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 14, 2014

What happened with the Saints game, though?

We all need a laugh. This did it for me. #L #wedat #FalconsNation #riseup pic.twitter.com/BN28sWDprN

— Liz Turcotte (@lizturcotte1) September 14, 2014

Saints fans salty.

— ZTrez (@ZekeTrezevant) September 14, 2014

The Saints...Oh (and two).

— Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) September 14, 2014

Falcons are going to lose to the good Ohio team. The Saints, though...LOL.

— Jeanna (@jeannathomas) September 14, 2014

I wish I would have had this info before the game.
