See the directorial debut of Julian Schanbel at the Coolidge Corner Theatre (290 Harvard St, Brookline) where he brings the tragic life of neo-Expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat to the big screen. In 1981, Basquiat was a 19-year-old graffiti artist living on the streets of New York City. Eight years later, he was a world-renowned painter — and the victim of his own addiction. Tuesday, September 13th

Tonight is the Kickoff Celebration for Franklin Park Art Grove at Savvor  (180 Lincoln Ave) 6:30 p.m – 10:00 p.m. which will give you an opportunity to meet the Art Grove artists and get a glimpse into what to expect October 1 in the Franklin Park Wilderness Picnic Grove. It will be an evening of spoken word, poetry, live music, art, food, discussion and networking that is free and open to the public. See our thoughts on the exhibit last year.

The National Black Women’s Society invites you out for a day of women empowerment at their Women of Color Summit at Simmons College (300 The Fenway) 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with featured speaker Jamilah Lemeux, former Editor of Ebony. LiteWork Events invite you to get “Schooled” for their annual school spirit event at Wonder Bar (186 Harvard St, Allston) 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Break out your college paraphernalia and get ready to party with DJ Candy Raine. The MFA (Museum of Fine Arts – 465 Huntington Ave, Roxbury) invites you for an all-night party taking place in the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art as part of #mfaNOW, a season celebrating contemporary art and artists. Entry starts at 6:00 p.m.  You can discover the bold art of LA-based artist Frances Stark, rarely seen after-hours footage of Christian Marclay’s 24-hour video collage “The Clock,” abstract prints by Terry Winters, provocative works from the MFA’s collection, and an unexpected line-up of programming inside and outside the building. There will be food trucks, lawn games, live music, DJ’s, Lectures, art demonstrations, performance art and more! The free entry ends at 9:00 a.m., so if you’re an early riser you can catch them the on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. for coffee, conversation and yoga starting at 7:00 a.m. Best of all, it’s all free! Twins & Friends present their signature event, Harlem Nights tonight at The Paramount (559 Washington St, Theater District) at 8:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Guests will be brought back in time as we create an atmosphere of a 1920’s Jazz Club including 1930’s decor, a live band and gaming tables. Sunday, September 18th

The MassCann/Norml 27th annual Boston Freedom Rally (aka Weed Fest) in Boston Common kicked off yesterday, but today they will have performances by Red Man and Method Man. They are advocating for the legalization of marijuana and education about its use. There will be music, talks and more. This event is free and open to the public.

Head to CityPOP Egleston (3195 Washington St) at 12:00 p.m. to help resident artist, Cagen Luse and be a part of his sculptural installation in Art Grove 2016 by making a plaster mask of your face. 15 masks will be selected to use in Cagen’s Art Grove installation “Communication Paradox II” then they will be returned to the owner. Wear clothes that can get messy! Please RSVP here if you are interested in being a part of the project.
