This
storm today has gotten amazingly close to snow for the highest elevations of
Northwestern New Jersey this morning as the temperatures at cloud level are
supportive of snow and the temperatures near the ground have dropped to 33 degrees at my weather station this morning.
It will however warm after sunrise and the main effects from the storm
will remain just to our south and east for coastal sections and central and
southern New Jersey, otherwise we might have had a bit of snow in the higher
elevations this morning.  This was very
close to being my late October surprise that I had talked so much about for the
past 2 months or so.  Anyway, moving
forward, the cold air will really start to filter in to our area tonight,
possibly changing any lingering rain showers to snow showers.  This chance of rain and snow showers will
continue through Friday as Lake Effect snow showers are going to develop from
the Great Lakes and some of these may very well make it into our area from time
to time.  The high temperatures for today
through Saturday will only be around 50 and the lows will be in the low to mid
30’s tomorrow and Friday, and in the upper 20’s to low 30’s on Saturday
morning.  On Saturday night a weak storm
system will approach our area, again bringing a chance of a rain or snow shower,
which could linger into Sunday morning.
We should then clear out on Sunday afternoon and have a nice Monday and
Tuesday with slightly warmer temperatures as well with highs in the mid to
upper 50’s.  Next Wednesday we will
likely have some showers as the next storm system approaches and these showers
will continue into Halloween morning.
However, right now it looks as if the showers should clear out of our
area by Halloween afternoon, leaving warmer temperatures and nice weather for
Halloween evening for the trick or treaters with highs in the low 60’s for
Halloween day and dropping to the low to mid 50’s by night.  Next Friday we will likely have rain as a strong
system approaches our area from the west.
We will have temperatures next Thursday and Friday in the low 60’s due
to the strong winds from the south ahead of the storm.  After this storm passes it will again pull
cold air into our area from Canada and then those still hoping for our first
snow will be interested in watching for a possible Nor’easter to form on
Sunday, November 3rd.  Depending
on if and where this storm forms, it could be either rain or snow, but that is
still a long way out and it is not even certain it will form at all.  We shall see.
Check back for updates.
