Using Screen Lock Features on your Galaxy S6 Edge+
Your S6 Edge+ device comes with enhanced security features including anti-theft as well as screen lock options. To secure all sensitive information and the device itself from any unauthorized access, manufacturers highly recommend every device owner to configure these settings on the very first day of use. If you haven’t done this yet, we’ll help you get started right now.
Just like other devices, your Galaxy S6 Edge+ is schemed to use the Power/Lock key to lock and unlock the screen. For better security, you can change the default screen lock type through the Settings menu. Here’s how it’s done:
To get started, press the Power/Lock key to lock or unlock your device screen.
Navigate to the Home screen.
Swipe down from the Notification bar.
From the Notification panel, tap the Settings icon located on the upper-rightmost corner of the screen next to EDIT.
Tap to open the Personal tab and then tap to select Lock screen and security from the given options.
Tap Screen lock type to continue.
Tap to select the screen lock type you prefer to use. Among the options offering better or higher security measures are Fingerprints, Pattern, and Password.
Setting up Fingerprint Unlock on your Galaxy S6 Edge+
Your Galaxy S6 Edge+ smartphone has a fingerprint scanner used to scan fingerprints to unlock the device. For the fingerprint scanner to function properly and evade from potential errors, you should keep your hands clean and free of moisture and dirt. You can register up to three fingerprints on the device.
Here’s how:
To get started, navigate to your phone Settings->Lock Screen and Security, then tap to select Fingerprints.
If prompted, read and review the Disclaimer information and tap OK to proceed.
The next screen will prompt you to place a finger on the Home button, lift it off, and then repeat. Move your finger upwards/downwards slightly between attempts. Do as it says to initiate fingerprint scanning and registration.
Now place your finger on the Home button then lift it off again until the progress bar reaches 100%. The percentage indicates scanning completion progress.
Enter a backup password. It should be at least 4 characters. For higher security, use an alphanumeric password (numbers and letters combination).
Note: Your backup password will serve as your alternative method to unlock your device screen instead of your registered fingerprint, should you forget which finger you’ve previously registered.
Tap Continue.
Re-enter the backup password to confirm then tap OK.
If prompted with the Turn on Fingerprint lock screen, tap OK to activate Fingerprint lock on your device. Otherwise, tap an alternate Phone lock option you would prefer to use.
Choose your preferred display options for your lock screen notifications.
Tap Done.
Now, try to lock your device screen by pressing the Power/Lock button.
You should now see the fingerprint lock screen. From this screen, place your registered finger on the Home key to unlock your device screen.
Register Multiple Fingerprints
You can also register more fingerprints. To do so, navigate to the Settings menu. Get to the Personal tab, and then tap to select the Lock screen and security option. Once you get there, proceed with these steps:
Scroll to and tap Fingerprints under Security section, then tap + Add Fingerprint.
If prompted, place your finger on the Home button and then lift it off again. Move your finger upwards or downwards slightly between attempts until you see the bar reaches 100%.
Tap the plus (+) icon located on the upper-right side of the screen.
If you want to remove a fingerprint, simply tap and hold the desired fingerprint under Manage fingerprints
The selected fingerprint will then be marked. Tap Remove to continue.
To confirm removal of the selected fingerprint, tap Remove on the message prompt.
If you remove all fingerprints, the screen lock method will restore to the default screen lock that is, Swipe. With this screen lock method, your phone screen unlocks with just a simple swipe. Apparently, it’s less secured.
Setting Up Pattern Unlock
To set up an unlock Pattern, navigate to your phone Settings->Personal tab->Lock screen and security-> and follow these steps:
Tap Screen lock type under Lock screen section.
If asked to confirm your identity, place your registered finger on the Home button.
Now, tap to select Pattern from the screen lock types.
Draw your preferred pattern, and tap Continue.
Draw the same pattern again, and then tap Confirm to confirm entry.
Set backup PIN by entering a backup PIN.
Your back up PIN will serve as your alternative screen lock method in case you forget your pattern.
When finished, tap Continue.
Enter the same backup PIN again, and then tap OK.
Choose the display options for notifications you want for your lock screen. Among your options include Show content, Hide content, and Do not show notifications. Just mark the option you want.
Tap Done.
How to Reset a Pattern Screen Lock
Entering or drawing an incorrect unlock pattern five times in a row will prompt you to reset your pattern lock. Here’s how it’s done:
Wait until the Timer reaches 0 and then you may access the device using any of the given options including Emergency Call, Unlock via Google, and Backup PIN.
To proceed with this guide, let us use a backup PIN to access your device. So tap Backup PIN.
Type in the correct backup PIN you’ve previously set up on your device, in case you forget your pattern.
To access your phone using your Google account information, tap the option to Unlock via Google.
Note: This is only applicable if you already set up an associated Google account. The Unlock via Google option will only become visible if there’s already a Google account set up on your device.
Enter the necessary Account information and then tap Sign In to proceed.
Your lock screen should now have been reset. Proceed by tapping the desired option and then follow the onscreen instructions to complete the set up for new screen lock.
Configure Secure Lock Settings on your Galaxy S6 Edge+
Another security option you can use and configure from the Lock screen and security menu is the Secure Lock Settings. Here’s how it works:
Navigate to your phone Settings->Lock screen and security.
Scroll to and tap to select Secured lock settings.
Tap Secured lock time to proceed.
A list of available Secured lock time options will display. Tap to select the secure lock time you want.
Important Note: Typically, you will be prompted to enter a PUK code if your device is locked. In this case, you need to obtain your PUK or PUK2 code to unlock your SIM card.
How to use PUK unlock on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
After more than three consecutive wrong PIN entries, SIM cards lock and then you will see a prompt to “Enter PUK”. If you encounter relevant error prompts, you need to use a PIN Unlock Key (PUK) code to unlock your SIM card. If you’re not sure of which information to enter, please contact your carrier for further assistance.
Also take note that if you enter a wrong PUK code more than 10 times in a row, your SIM card will be blocked completely and should be replaced.
If your device is not yet PUK locked, tap Emergency Call for you to get to the screen menu where you can enter the PIN code. When you see a message saying, “Unblocking PIN: Registration was successful,” tap OK to proceed.
