In this post, I tackled an issue regarding notifications that won’t show on the lock screen nor make the Samsung Galaxy S6 (#Samsung #GalaxyS6) sound off whenever new messages come in. It’s a widespread problem and many actually reported to have encountered it but it seems the issue is with the firmware of the device and only Samsung can fix it by rolling out another update to patch it. There were, however, reports that there’s one procedure that may be able to remedy it. Read on to know how.

Here’s the list of the problems I cited in this article…

Notifications don’t sound off or show on lock screen

Restore Outlook app icon on the Home screen

Gmail account doesn’t sync

S Voice activates by itself

Contact numbers and information changed

Phone got stuck in safe mode

Phone app randomly pops up

Applications disappear from the Home screen

Notifications don’t sound off or show on lock screen

Problem: I have all notifications for my apps turned on. I also have the show notification text message details on lock screen turned on, however, when I check my lock screen I don’t ever have any notification bars, bars telling me I missed calls or even any notifications from games, etsy etc. On my HTC One M7 they were nice and big and had large rectangular bubbles with notifications Starting at the top of the screen all the way across to the bottom. Now I feel like I never know what the heck is going on or who is trying to contact me. This may be a deal breaker. Can you help me? Thank you.

Troubleshooting: It has something to do with the firmware. Many owners encountered this issue when they’re connected to Wi-Fi and some have this issue regardless of the network their phones are connected to. It’s like Samsung or Google has some work to do and there’s not much you can do about it but report the problem so they would know it’s widespread. There were, however, some owners who reported that doing the master reset seemed to have fixed their issue. So, that’s worth a shot.

How to master reset Galaxy S6

Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6.

Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.

When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.

Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.

Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.

Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.

After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Restore Outlook app icon on the Home screen

Problem: I mistakenly dragged Outlook to the trash can. I can see the application in the Application Manager,  but cannot reinstate the icon on the home screen. Could you kindly help me out with this?  Thank you!

Solution: Just follow these steps and you’ll be good:

Tap the Apps icon.

Find the Outlook app icon.

Tap and hold the icon and drag it to the Home screen.

You should now be able to see the icon on the Home screen. Drag it to a spot where you want it.

Gmail account doesn’t sync

Problem: I have two Gmail accounts, personal and business.  The personal account works well and syncs both ways with my computer.  The business account does not sync and hasn’t for months.  I have tried everything I can do, such as restoring to default, wiping cache partitions, rebooting, uninstalling Gmail and reinstalling, making sure sync is set and auto sync is on, 30 day sync, background refresh, etc.  It’s driving me crazy.  What can I do? Thanks!

Troubleshooting: Please try to check every setting on both your phone and your computer. It’s pretty difficult for us to troubleshoot this problem since we don’t exactly know how the account is setup on both your computer and phone. But the thing is, you have a Gmail account and you’re using the Gmail app on an Android phone so it should work flawlessly without much of a hassle but it didn’t. So, I have two options for you: try using the Email app to setup your business account or call Google and have its tech support group help you.

S Voice activates by itself

Problem: I have S Voice on my Samsung S6.  all of sudden at random times ( even when my phone is just sitting on a table)  the s voice search comes.  It seems like conversation in the room is activating it.  I have disabled it at this point.  Is there a fix for this?

Answer: You’re not the only one having this issue; just last week, we got a report about the same problem, although it happened with the Note 4. And the answer to your question is no, there’s nothing we can do about it to fix the problem except disabling the feature.

Contact numbers and information changed

Problem: One of my contacts, definitely the person I call the most. My contacts list keeps adding other contacts numbers her contact profile in my cell phone. Seems that the Google  contacts? info?, etc of others get added to her contact information. Just recently I called my insurance agent, the agents contact information disappeared, but my insurance agents cell phone is on my other contact profile. Now that contact has 5 extra mobile numbers that belong to others.

Suggestion: What makes this problem even more difficult for us to figure out is the lack of information. Where do you save your contacts? Is it in your phone, SIM card or are they saved in your online account? But anyway, if you have a backup of all your contacts locally, you can just reset your phone to clear all current contacts and restore the correct ones. Or if they are saved in the cloud, you can sync your phone with your account to download them.

Phone got stuck in safe mode

Problem: Since lollipop update a “safe mode” title appear on the left bottom side of my phone screen and most of the apps that I downloaded previously  got deactivated, still in app manager but not active. Safe mode gave me a choice to ” deactivate safe mode so I can use the other apps.” I did press “yes” the phone went off re-start it…nothing happens. Tried it many times and ddin’t work so I need your help asap. Thank you.

Troubleshooting: Must be some corrupt caches or data but it’s actually a good sign because your Galaxy S6 can still boot up successfully in safe mode; it means one of your third-party apps is causing the problem. But to address it, all you need to do is wipe the cache partition:

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.

When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’

Press the Power key to select.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.

If it failed, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Phone app randomly pops up

Problem: I have a 64GB gold Galaxy S6. For the past few days every once in a while my phone will randomly switch to the phone app , no matter what app i may be using it just switches to the call logs page of the phone app… please help.

Answer: I want to know exactly how frequent is “once in a while.” How often does it happen in a day? It seems like you may have just accidentally touched the phone app but you’re 100% sure you didn’t, try to observe more closely how it’s triggered. Be mindful of the apps you use and count how many times it occurs in a day.

If it’s starting to bother you and disrupt what you do, I suggest you backup your data and reset your phone.

Applications disappear from the Home screen

Problem: Since I got the phone at various times apps disappear from the front screen.  i have tried locking the screen but it still did this.  last night it deleted a whole page of apps.  the apps are still in the apps section that shows all of my downloads.  But i have to go back and bring them forward again to the front screen and recreate the different blocks of apps.  any ideas how to stop this?

Troubleshooting: I am assuming you’re not using a third-party launcher because if so, that’s where the problem is. But anyway, just make sure you are seeing the screen where you put those apps on. You may do so by navigating to other screens and change the default Home screen if necessary. If the problem still occurs, then clear the cache and data of the Touchwiz service. This will delete all your home screens but I believe it will take care of the problem:

From any Home screen, tap Apps.

Tap Settings.

Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.

Swipe right to the ALL screen.

Scroll to and tap Touchwiz.

Tap Clear cache.

Tap Clear data, then OK.

I hope this helps.
