It used to be that if you wanted to take great quality photos you have to rely on a point and shoot camera or better yet, a DSLR. Both these camera types can take amazing pictures at the hands of someone who has knowledge in taking quality shots. The advances made in smartphone technology however has changed this. Take for instance the Samsung #GalaxyS4 which despite being released in 2013 is capable of challenging most point and shoot cameras.

There are times however when the #S4 camera is not working properly. The photos may be blurred or the camera itself does not function at all. This and other related issues are what we will tackle in the latest installment of our troubleshooting series.

If you own a Galaxy S4 or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. We will be more than happy to assist you with any concern that you may have with your device. This is a free service we are offering with no strings attached. S4 Camera Wrong Orientation

Problem: My problem is that the camera orients itself counter to how I hold it.  So if i am holding the phone in portrait, the camera will be oriented in landscape.  Or vice versa. I have tried to pull the battery, reset the phone, and reset to defaults to no success. My phone has been dropped a few times, and as such I might have knocked it out of whack.

Solution: Have you done a factory reset? If you haven’t then try doing it. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding. If this issue is caused by a glitch in your phone software then it’s very likely that the factory reset will resolve this issue.

If however after doing a factory reset the issue still remains the same then your phone gyroscope may not be sending the correct information to your camera app. In this case this may already be a hardware related problem which is caused by your phone being dropped a few times. I suggest your phone to an authorized service center for further checking and repair.

S4 Camera Not Working After Updating Phone Software

Problem: Ended up updating my phone to newest software. Now my camera does not work all the time. Going to front camera mode seems to be the biggest issue. I can’t hangout video chat anymore. And no more pictures / very limited. Seems to be sensitive and doesn’t work even after force stopping,  resetting the cache,  etC from a previous blog post. Thank you so much!

Solution: Whenever issues arise after a software update it is always best to perform a factory reset. The reason behind this is that these issues are most likely caused by the old software data that has not been completely removed from your phone. In order to remove this completely a factory reset must be done. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

S4 Gallery Photos Are Greyed Out

Problem: While my camera works fine I have a galaxy s4 4.22 version after I take a picture I go into the gallery and half the picture is grayed out please advise it doesn’t do it on every picture only on some I go to the cloud and the pictures are saved that way as well help

Solution: The most likely cause for this issue is a corrupted data. If this is caused by a bad temporary data then just wipe the cache partition of your phone then check on the photos again.

If half of the photo is still greyed out then the problem may be with your storage medium. This usually happens when you save your photos to the microSD card. If you have a microSD card then take it out and replace it with a new one. As much as possible choose a class 10 microSD card.

If your photos are stored in the internal storage of your phone and you don’t have any microSD card then I suggest you back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Front Camera Blurry

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy s4 front camera is blurry and rough it seems distorted i compared to my friend’s s4 and there’s a lot difference i get low resolution from my front facing camera please help

Solution: The first thing you need to do is to check the physical status of your phone front camera. Does your phone have a screen protector installed? This may be interfering with the way your front camera takes photos. Try taking this out if you have one installed.

Next, check the lens of your front camera. Is there any oil residue or dirt present? If you spot any then clean it using a microfiber cloth. This type of cloth is recommended so you won’t scratch the lens. If you have any lens paper available which can be bought at any camera supply store then this can also be used.

On the software side you should try to clear the cache and data of your camera app. If the problem is caused by a corrupt cached data then this procedure will resolve the issue.

If the issue still persist after following all of the troubleshooting steps above then I suggest you back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Front Camera Crashes “Cannot Connect To Camera”

Problem: When i switch to the front camera the app crashes and sais “cannot connect to camera” there were no issues with the phone until i installed the latest stock kernel. I don’t really want to roll back… but i haven’t tried

Solution: For this particular issue the first thing you should try is to clear the cache and data of your camera app. If this issue is caused by a corrupted cached data in the camera app then the problem will be resolved with this procedure. Take note though that any custom settings that you made with the camera app will default back to its original settings.

If the issue still persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. This deletes the cache partition from your phone and usually helps in this type of problem.

Finally, if the problem still persists then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your phone data before performing this procedure.
