Note 3 Lockscreen Numbers Disappearing After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi Droidguy, I have a Note 3 and I’ve recieved the Lollipop update and its been installed for about a month now. Only recently though have I experienced a problem with my phone. I use the numerical lockscreen and  the numbers and letters on it are replaced by white boxes. I’ve reset my phone and while it does solve the problem at first it’s more like a temporary fix since it happens again after a few days. I’ve included a photo for reference. Thanks for the help!

Solution: If the issue occurs a few days after resetting your phone then it may be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still persists.

First you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone to clear out any temporary data

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key

When ‘GALAXY Note III’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’

Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.

With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Next, start your phone in Safe Mode

Turn the device off.

Press and hold the Power key.

When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If the issue is gone then it may be caused by a third party app. Find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.

Note 3 Not Connecting To Internet After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hello, Note 3, one year old, Rogers Network in Canada, LTE, Lollypop 5.0, 5 gig data plan. I don’t use WiFi much. I have had my Note 3 for about a year and it has always been fast on the internet with no connection problems.  Then I updated to Lollypop 5.0 about 3 weeks ago.  Now my phone will not connect to the internet about 80% of the time.  It will time out or I get a message saying the web page is not available.  Here is the kicker, if I restart my phone it will connect and load the web page right away with no problems.  But after awhile the same problem starts up again.  It does not seem to matter where I am, indoors or out. This even happens when the phone is showing LTE and 2 bars.  I really wish I hadn’t updated the OS now. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Solution: Since the issue temporarily goes away after restarting the phone then this may be caused by a glitch in the temporary data stored in the phone. Wiping the cache partition of your phone usually helps in this situation.

If you are still experiencing the same problem then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.

When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

Press Power button to select.

Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’

Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Note 3 Not Getting Lollipop Update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy note 3 and I was reading online that I should have gotten the 5.0 lollipop update but I never did and I called att last night and they told me to factory reset and try again but it still doesn’t work. What do you think I should do? And why do you think I haven’t gotten it?

Solution: If your phone is running on stock firmware that has not been modified then it should be getting the latest Lollipop update. If no update is found through the OTA method then try using Kies to update your phone software.

Install Kies first in your computer

Download the most recent version of Kies by visiting http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ (Select the SAMSUNG Kies version compatible with the PC)

Double click the Kies file. The program will self extract, no action is required

Select the desired Language and Location, then click Next.

Read the license agreement, check the box for “I accept…” and click Next.

Kies will begin the installation. No action is required.

When the process is complete, click Finish.

Prepare your phone

From the home screen, press the Menu key.

Tap Settings

Tab the More tab.

Tap Developer options, if available. If not available, skip to step 8.

Tap Ok

Tap USB Debugging

Tap the Home key to exit the settings menu.

Insert the USB data cable into the phone and then into an available port on the computer.

Select Media device(MTP) at the phone prompt. The PC should recognize several devices and begin installation. This is normal and may take a few minutes. Unplug the data cable when completed.

Update your phone

Open the Samsung Kies application.

Allow the application to detect the device and display an available update notification.

Follow the on screen prompts to complete the update.

Note 3 Notification Sound Not Changing After Lollipop Update

Problem: I just updated my Note 3 to Lollipop. I’ve changed my default notification sound to one of my choice yet it will only play whistle. Please help.

Solution: Several people who have also updated to Lollipop have been experiencing this issue. One way to resolve this that seems to work in most cases is to wipe the cache partition of the phone then do a quick restart.

Note 3 Tap / Keyboard Sound Not Working After Lollipop Update

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy note 3 android cell phone and since the latest system update I have been having problems with the tap sound on this device. I have all the sound selections made correctly in settings but the tap sounds and keyboard sounds do not work consistently. This is so frustrating. I wish I had never clicked ok to update the system software a month or so ago. The phone was fine until the update and the tap and keyboard sound not working is just one of several problems. Can you offer any fixes for the sound?

Solution: First make sure that all the setting are correct. Sound on keypress and touch sound should be turned on. Take note that most users who upgrade say that the volume is low on Lollipop compared to KitKat so your phone may be making a sound when you touch the display but you may not hear it if you are in a noisy environment.

If all settings are correct and you still can’t hear any keypad and touch sounds then you should consider performing a factory reset on your phone. This generally solves most issues that occur after a software upgrade. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Note 3 Not Reconnecting To Wi-Fi Network After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi there, I recently updated to lollipop on my note 3 and I noticed that it won’t reconnect to the network after wifi is turned off. I think everything is ok on settings – tried turning off and on the wifi auto switch and the mobile network itself, but the only thing that will reconnect to the network is restarting the phone. But I reconnect to wifi, them disconnect, it does the same thing. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Solution: Try deleting the Wi-Fi connection from your phone then scan for it again and connect to it. Check if the issue still occurs.

Note 3 Stuck In Lollipop Update Loop

Problem: I just downloaded the new lollipop update for my note3 and when the phone rebooted it installs update to 100% then the phone stops and turns off can not turn back on until battery is removed. then it turns on and does the same thing, installs update to 100% and so on…

Solution: A glitch may have occurred during the update process. You should first take out the microSD card of your phone if it has one installed then perform a wipe cache partition.

Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.

When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

Note 3 Sends Text Message On Its Own After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi, hope you may be able to help me?? I recently updated by software and phone has been playing up occasionally. A few days ago I was walking home listening to music on spotify when my wife called me from her mobile. I attempted to answer the phone and the phone temporarily froze and I was unable to answer. Somehow during the attempt to answer the phone my wife received a text message stating “I’m at the cinema”? I did not send any texts and we are very confused as to how this happened. It has caused all sorts of problems and some form of explanation would be very helpful. It was not on the text templates page which is the only thing I can think of. I have also never sent that message to anyone before. Any thoughts appreciated.

Solution: This issue is obviously caused a glitch in the phone software. Do you have an “I’m at the cinema” template in your phone? If you have then this may have been activated and sent when your phone froze.

To ensure that this does not happen again try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key

When ‘GALAXY Note III’ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

Note 3 Call Can’t Be Heard By Other Person

Problem: When I try to call on my galaxy note 3 I can’t talk to the person that I’m trying to call but I can hear them.  What is the problem?

Solution: Try rebooting your phone then open the voice recorder app and make a voice recording. Playback the recorded file. If you can’t hear anything then there might be something wrong with your phone microphone. Try checking the microphone hole and see if there is any dirt blocking it. If you spot any then clean it using a toothpick.

If however you can hear your voice recording then this may be a network or software related issue.

Check on the network first by placing a call in different areas. If the issue still persists try using another SIM on your phone.

To eliminate any software related issues you should consider doing a factory reset. Back up your phone data first before proceeding.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.

Note 3 Stuck In Boot Logo

Problem: Hello, I am having some issues with my Note 3 including the following:

When I connect the charger the screen displays the big charging battery but won’t turn back off.

When I try to turn the phone on it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 logo.

Won’t boot into Safe Mode.

When I boot to recovery it displays the following errors: MMC: mmc_read fail, Movinand checksum confirmation fail.

If you have any advice on fixing this issue, please assist. Thanks

Solution: It looks like your phone software is already corrupt. Since you can’t access the phone recovery you will need to reflash your phone software. You need a copy of your phone firmware as well as a software called Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to perform this can be found at several of the popular online Android forums.

Note 3 Unable To Download Documents After Lollipop Update

Problem: Just recently updated my Note 3 (AT&T) to the new 5.0 OS and when online (just the internet that is provided with the phone) I am unable to download documents like PDF’s when doing searches. I really need to be able to download PDF and I’m not sure how to fix this. Any help would be great.

Solution: Do you get an error message when you attempt to download the file? Try using a different browser when trying to download documents as this may be an issue with the browser you are using.

Note 3 Saves Screenshots Twice After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi, I saw your article here: http://thedroidguy.com/2015/04/samsung-galaxy-note-3-problems-errors-glitches-solutions-and-troubleshooting-part-65-105038#KMbVDRRvbFQOPQ26.97. I realized that you did not address an issue that I’ve been having since the upgrade:  my screenshots are doubled.  Every time I make a screenshot, I get 2 pictures instead of 1. I was okay with it at first but the memory started mounting up fast.  I could not find anything that would allow me to change the settings for screenshots.  Let me know.

Solution: When was the last time you rebooted your phone? This issue is caused by a glitch in your phone software that may be resolved by restarting your phone. Try rebooting your phone then check if the issue still persists.

If the problem still occurs then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key

When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.

Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’

Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.

With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

One last troubleshooting step you can do is a factory reset. This should be your final option if all else fails.

Ever since the lollipop update, my phone refuse me to do online banking even though all my username and password for the online banking are all correct and also spoken to my bank about it, they told me told check the settings. It’s keeps telling me that its an invalid entry.  Pls, what can I do to correct it n be back checking out my account online.

If the problem still persists then try accessing your account using your phone’s browser. Try using different browsers and check which one works.

You should also double check your username and password by typing it on your phone notepad pp or messaging app.

Note 3 Freezes / Restarts On Its Own

Problem: Hi just checking if you can help me out. My note three is only a couple months.  But it was locked to Verizon and it was unlocked so I could use it on a carrier in my country.  It keeps on restarting on its own. It would freeze then restart on its own…. or it would say Facebook app has stopped or viber has stopped…. basically aaaall the apps on my phone at some point during the day has stopped…. then it would say like settings has stopped or basic things on the phone has stopped. What can I do? Oh and check the screenshot ever since it was unlocked it keeps that message on.

Solution: Regarding the issue of your phone freezing and crashing a factory reset will resolve this.

As for the other issue regarding the “This SIM card is from an unknown source” error, this usually occurs when you unlock a Verizon phone and use a non-Verizon SIM. To resolve this you need to root your phone then remove Verizon related apps from your phone. The most common causes behind this error are the following.

Note 3 Data Usage Increases After Lollipop Update

Problem: I usually never go over 1GB of data in  a month and when I do it’s not by much.  I’m also the one responsible for my companies cell phone plan and I’m always looking at data usage.  So to my surprise after I updated to lollipop YouTube has almost used 2GB alone just on my device!  I’m now almost at 3GB of data and still have close to a half of a month to go before my data resets.  Attached is a screen shot.  I’m dumbfounded and think other note3 users, Verizon, Samsung and Google need to be aware of this bug.

Solution: Do you use YouTube a lot on your phone? If you do then it’s natural for the app to rank high on data consumption. If your usage of YouTube is the same as that when your phone was on KitKat and you are experiencing an increased data usage right now then try checking on the video quality. You may be playing the file on 1080p or 720p which uses up a lot of data. Try reducing the quality of the video you view and see if this has a huge effect on the data consumption of the app.

Note 3 Facebook Notification Pops Up After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi there! I read a lot of you updates on drippler. Thanks for all the great info! Since lollipop update, all my fb notification pop up (on top of all apps) instead of just appearing in notification bar. I find this inconvenient and annoying, especially while working. Is there a way to turn it off of popping up, but still receive notifications? The other apps do not pop up and just appear in the notification app. Please help!

Solution: You can control the way your notifications appear on your phone screen by going to Settings then click on Sound and Notification. You will see four notification options, click on “When device is locked”. You will then get to a screen with three more options namely “Show all notification content”, “Hide sensitive notification content”, and “Don’t show notifications at all”. Choose “Hide sensitive notification content”.

You can also fine tune this further by selecting on an app to app basis which app can send notifications. You can do this through the App Notifications setting.

Note 3 USB Cable Not Working

Problem: Hello I haven’t found a thread specific to this issue yet. After update my usb 3.0 isn’t always charging my note. I own a regular micro usb from an old s4 and that works flawlessly. When I use the 3.0 that came with my note, I get a message saying “To charge faster, use the charger and cable that was provided with this device” Any input is appreciated!

Solution: It looks like the USB cable that came with your phone may already be damaged. Try checking first both ends of the cord if there are any dirt or lint. Clean it with a toothpick if you spot any. If the problem still persists then the damage may be internal. Just replace the USB cord with a new one. Make sure that the new USB cord is compatible with your phone.

Note 3 S Voice Turns On Randomly After Lollipop Update

Problem: Thanks so much for your offer to help me. I have a Note 3 on AT&T (SM-N900A) with android v5.0 installed.  I disable S-Voice.  However, whenever I get home and my phone connects to my home wifi network, S-Voice enables, the GPS enables and the damn thing starts talking to me about hoping I make the best of my evening, etc. I then go to settings (s-voice settings) and turn off hands-free mode…only to have it happen the next time I come home.  Hands-free mode shows up as turned off in Settings. Any idea how to shut her up??

Solution: To eliminate any software related glitches that may be causing this issue to occur you should consider doing a factory reset on your phone. Back up your data before doing this procedure.

If the issue still persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. Try checking the USB port of your phone. If you sot any dirt then clean it using a toothpick. You may need to bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking.

Note 3 Call / Text Issues

Problem: Hello, I’ve had my note 3 for a year. No problems until now. There are 2 or 3 people who’s numbers I text to that won’t get received at all. I get theirs but they don’t get mine. And today I typed in a text message and hit send and it didn’t register that it was even sent. Another problem is some of my contacts have said they’ve called and it shows in their call log that they did, but it doesn’t show in mine. Thanks for any help you can give.

Solution: Your messages may not be sent out which is why the recipient has not received any text message from you. You can fix this by clearing the cache and data of your phone’s messaging app.

From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.

Tap Settings.

From the General tab, tap Application manager.

Swipe left to the ALL tab.

Scroll to and tap the Messaging application.

Tap Clear cache.

Tap Clear data.

The application cache and data is now cleared.

If the issue persists then I recommend doing a factory reset. This will delete all data on your phone so you better make a backup first. This may also help resolve the call related issue that you are facing with your phone.

Note 3 Bluetooth Issue After Lollipop Update

Problem: After the Lollipop update on my Verizon Samsung Note 3, the bluetooth connection to my 2014 Toyota Camry using Entunes is unstable. If it connects, it will disconnect after a few minutes saying, “No bluetooth phone available.”  The Note 3 says that it’s “paired” but once it loses the connection, I get an error message on the phone saying connection could not be established when I try to force it to connect via Settings/Bluetooth.  I’ve unpaired/disconnected and repaired/reconnected about a dozen times, but I still can’t get a stable bluetooth connectivity.  I’ve even tried to connect in Safe Mode, but it makes no difference. I’ve cleared the cache and reconnected, but to no avail.  I’ve taken the Entunes app off the phone and reinstalled, but still no fix.

I happen to run into the Samsung rep at Costco phone kiosk today and he said that short of Samsung coming up with a fix to the Lollipop update, the only option is a factory reset at this point.  I’ve backed up my phone via  Samsung Kies to my PC.  My concern is that I have several apps that accumulate points (e.g., frequent diner apps, game apps) which I want to preserve.  Would Kies save those app points?  The Samsung rep didn’t know.  I did notice that Kies has backup for apps, but I’m not sure to what extent it saves the data in each of the apps.

If there is another fix to the bluetooth connectivity issue, especially short of a factory reset, I’d appreciate a suggestion. Thank you.

Solution:   A lot of people who have updated their phones to Lollipop are also facing Bluetooth connection problems. Try forgetting the Bluetooth connection from your phone. You should also consult your car manual and check how to reset its Bluetooth connection. Scan for the connection again and connect to it.

Regarding the points that you earned through the apps there is a big possibility that this will be saved if you login to the apps. If the app for example requires you to enter a username and a password then your points are stored in the app servers.

Note 3 Not Syncing With Google Calendar After Lollipop Update

Problem: So here’s my issue since the software update, which hit my phone on 4/23/15: My phone no longer syncs with my Google calendar. My mobile calendar is completely blank, which is disheartening to say the least. I cannot get my calendar appointments back on my phone. When I go into my accounts to try to sync, it keeps saying “sync error”.  The message at the bottom says: “Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.” Well it has said that since the software update. Is there anything I ca do to resolve the calendar-sync issues? Please advise. Thank you.

Solution: Try restarting your phone first and see if this resolves the issue. If it doesn’t then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists then remove your Google account from the phone then add it again.

Note 3 Keeps Cycling S Finder Screen

Problem: Hi, last night I fell asleep with my phone in the bed with me. Something I rarely do. Apparently I must have slept on my device because during the night I awoke to find my device acting really strange. It was and is repeatedly cycling to the S Finder Screen, and once there it pops up the menu tool bar in the S Finder app. Its almost seems as if the menu button is stuck. Im unable to do a lot of functions in my phone do to this constant pop up of the menus in each app and ultimately backing up to the S Finder menu. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Please help

Solution: It looks like the menu button of your phone has a problem. Try restarting your phone. If the problem still persists then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
