Setting up an Email account on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Just like other Samsung mobile devices, the new Galaxy S6 Edge has the Email application used for sending and receiving emails from your webmail or other email accounts using POP3 or IMAP. You can also use the same application to access your Exchange ActiveSync account and manage your corporate emails on your mobile device.

With the Galaxy S6 Edge Email app, you can have multiple email accounts set up at one time. But before setting up an email account, please make sure you know of or have the username (user ID), password, server name and relevant information so you can get set up successfully.

Here’s how to set up an email account on your new Samsung device and check your email on the go:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email. Hint: If you haven’t yet set up any email account on your new device, you will be prompted with a window/screen for adding an account.

Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your email account. Once the email account is successfully set up, you can already start sending and receiving email messages on your phone.

In case you are not sure of the required information to set up an email account like the server name or settings, please contact your carrier for further assistance.

Adding an Email Account on your Galaxy S6 Edge

As mentioned earlier, you can have multiple email accounts (personal or work email) set up at one time on your device. Here’s how:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email.

Enter your email address and password, if you want to select an existing account.

Touch Next if you prefer your device to attempt to complete the setup process by automatically finding your email settings. Otherwise, touch Manual Setup to set up and add the email account manually.

More Hints:

If you opt to use an account that is already registered on your phone, just select the account from the dropdown list.

If the account you want to set up is not registered on your phone, you will be prompted to enter more details. Therefore, you should get all pertinent details for the email account, like the incoming and outgoing server settings before you proceed.

For this guide, we’ll choose Manual Setup so touch Manual Setup to continue.

On the next screen, select the type of email account you want to add or set up. Let’s go for a POP3 account, so touch POP3 Account and proceed to the next step.

Enter your Incoming server settings (POP3 server, Security type, Port, etc.) and touch Next to continue. If you are not sure what information to enter, please contact your email provider or carrier for further assistance.

Allow your device to try to connect to the incoming server using the settings you have entered. If the connection is successful, you will be prompted with the Outgoing server settings screen. Enter your outgoing server settings (SMTP server, Security type, Port number) and touch Next to continue.

Hint: If the incoming server settings you entered are incorrect, you will be prompted with the Edit details screen for you to make necessary changes to the incoming server settings. Review and confirm your settings and then try again.

Allow your device to try to connect to the outgoing server using the settings you have entered. If the connection is successful, you will be prompted with the Sync settings screen wherein you can select a sync schedule you prefer. Once you’re done making your selections, touch Next to proceed. Hint: If you have entered incorrect server settings, you will be prompted with the Edit details screen for you to make necessary changes to the outgoing server settings. Review and confirm your settings and try again.

On the Email accounts screen, give a name to the account and enter your name as you want it to appear on your outgoing messages.

Touch DONE to complete the setup process. The email account is already set up and you will begin receiving emails for the account.

Follow the same steps the next time you want to add/set up another POP3 or IMAP account on your S6 Edge handset.

Adding an Exchange Server Email Account/Exchange ActiveSync Account

You can use your new Samsung smartphone to connect to a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync server and synchronize emails, contacts, calendars, tasks and even SMS text messages. Once your phone is synced with your Exchange ActiveSync account, you can already begin to read, send and manage emails in the same easy way as with the POP3/IMAP account.

Important Note: We recommend contacting of your company’s Exchange Server administrator to get the required account settings information before you set up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Account (work email).

Follow these steps whenever you are ready to start setting up or adding an Exchange ActiveSync Account on your Galaxy S6 Edge:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Settings.

Scroll to and touch Accounts from the Settings menu options.

Touch Add account to continue.

Scroll to and touch to select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync from the given options.

Enter your email address and

Touch Next to let your device try to complete the setup process by finding your Exchange server settings automatically. Otherwise, touch Manual Setup to setup the account manually.

For this guide, we’ll opt for a manual setup so touch Manual Setup to proceed.

Enter the correct server settings for your work email and touch Next.

Hint: If your phone cannot find the additional details required to complete the setup process, you will be prompted with a message that says, “Setup could not finish.” If this happens, touch Edit details to enter the additional information manually.

When prompted with the Activation screen, read and review the Activation information and touch OK to continue.

Configure your account syncing options (period to sync email, sync schedule, etc.) according to your preference and touch Next.

Wait until the account setup is complete and then specify the account name.

Touch Done to complete the process. Your corporate email account is already set up and so you will now start receiving emails for the account and manage them on the go.

How to compose and send Email on your Galaxy S6 Edge

After you have successfully set up an email account on your device, you may begin composing and sending emails with that account. Aside from plain text emails, you can also attach files like pictures, videos or documents to your email messages to increase your productivity.

Here’s how to compose and send email using any account you have set up on your S6 Edge smartphone:

Touch Apps from the Home

Touch Email and then wait for the email inbox to open.

Hints:

If you want to switch to a different email account, simply touch the account name at the top of the screen and then choose another account.

You can also view multiple inboxes simultaneously. To do so, touch the account name at the top of the screen and then touch Combined inbox to view messages from all the email accounts you have configured on your phone.

Touch Compose to open the email composition window and start composing an email message.

Enter your message recipient(s), subject, and the message

When finished, touch Send and the email message is sent.

Opening new Email Messages on your Galaxy S6 Edge

Typically, a new email message icon will be shown in the Status bar when new email arrives. When you see the icon, follow these steps to open and view the entire content of the new email you’ve received.

Open the Notification Panel by dragging the Status bar down.

When the Notification Panel opens, you will see a list of notifications. Touch the new message to open and view the new email message.

In case you have two or more new email messages received, touching the notification launches the email inbox wherein you can view the new messages received individually. Just touch a message you want to open or view.

Opening Email Messages from the Email Inbox on Galaxy S6 Edge

Another way to view email messages is by going straight to the email inbox. There you can read and reply to the email on your mobile phone as simple as you do them on your computer. Here’s how:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email to open the email inbox.

From the Email Inbox, touch to open the email message you want to view/read.

To reply to the message, touch Reply or Reply all.

Hint: You can also switch to a different email account by touching the account name at the top of the screen. Doing so will open the emails for the selected account.

Following are the available options you can use when reviewing email messages from the inbox:

Resetting Mail as Unread – option used to mark a message you’ve read/opened as unread.

To mark an email as unread, touch and hold a read message then touch More, and finally touch Mark as unread.

Deleting Email – option used to erase or remove an email from the Inbox.

To delete an email from the Inbox, touch and hold a message, select any additional message, and then touch Delete and select Delete again to confirm. You can also delete an email right after you read it, by touching Delete, and then select Delete again to confirm.

Replying to Email Messages – option used to reply to an email message.

To reply to an email, open the email message and then touch Reply or Reply all, compose your reply message, and finally, touch Send to send your reply.

Forwarding Email Messages – option used to forward an email message.

To forward an email, open the email message and then touch Forward, enter a recipient and additional message (if necessary), and finally touch Send to send/forward your message to your specified recipient.

Deleting an Email Account on your Galaxy S6 Edge

If you no longer want to receive a message for a certain email account on your phone, then you can just delete that account. Here’s how:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email to open the Email Inbox.

Touch More to view more options.

Touch to select Settings to continue.

Touch the account name you want to delete and then touch Remove.

To confirm deletion of selected account, touch Remove.

The account will then be deleted from your phone afterwards.

Managing Email Inbox on the Galaxy S6 Edge

There are several options for you to manage and organize your Email Inbox. Among these are the options for sorting, viewing and deleting email messages. Here’s how to use them:

Viewing your Email Inbox

There are two ways for you to view your Email Inbox. Here’s how:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email to open the Email Inbox.

To select a different inbox, touch the email account at the top of the screen.

To view all your email inboxes at once, touch Combined view.

Filtering Email Messages

You can sort email messages accordingly with the following steps:

Open the Email Account Inbox.

Touch More to view more options.

Touch to select Sort by to continue.

Now choose the options for filtering email messages.

Deleting Email Messages

One way to free up some space in your Email Inbox is by deleting unnecessary email messages. Follow these steps to delete an email from your inbox:

Open the email account inbox.

Touch and hold the message you want to remove or delete from the inbox. If you want to delete more emails, just touch to select the emails.

Touch Delete to confirm deletion of selected email(s).

Adding Priority Senders and Viewing Emails from Priority Senders

The Galaxy S6 Edge Email app supports tagging of priority senders, allowing you to view emails from priority senders only.

Email messages coming from priority senders will automatically be shown at the top of your email inbox. An indication that an email comes from a priority sender is a priority email icon displayed in their subject line.

How to Add Priority Senders:

Open the email account inbox.

Touch Priority Senders.

Touch the plus (+) sign beside Tap to add priority senders option.

Choose a recommended contact. You can also touch the Contacts tab to choose additional contacts to add in your priority senders list.

Touch Done when finished. The contact is now listed among your priority senders.

To view emails coming from priority senders only, open the email account inbox and then touch Priority Senders icon.

Working with Exchange ActiveSync Email Features

You can set different options for your work email (corporate Exchange ActiveSync email) messages such as synchronization options, account settings, out-of-office messages, and the like. Here’s how to work with each of these options.

Begin by accessing the Exchange ActiveSync settings:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Email to launch the email inbox.

Touch More to view additional options.

Select Settings from the given options.

Touch the Exchange ActiveSync account name you want to view or manage options from.

Among the available options you may configure include Sync account, Account name, Always Cc/Bcc myself, Signature, and more.

Creating and Sending emails using Gmail account on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Aside from POP3/IMAP and Exchange ActiveSync, you can also use Google’s Gmail service and your Google account to send, receive, and manage messages from your webmail. One of the first requisites to make this possible is to register a Google or Gmail account on your mobile device.

Here are the steps to create and send a Gmail message on your new Samsung smartphone:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Google to continue.

Select Gmail to open the Gmail inbox.

Touch Compose from the Inbox to launch the Gmail composition window and start composing an email message.

Enter the email recipient(s), subject, and your message.

When finished, touch Send to send your Gmail message.

Other Gmail Composition options you may use include Adding Cc/Bcc, Attaching Pictures or Videos, Save draft (Send Later) and Discard.

More Hints:

To display Cc and Bcc fields, touch the dropdown arrow in the To field.

To attach picture or video files, touch Attach file in the mail composition window, then locate and touch the file you want to attach to your message.

To save draft, touch More options, then select Save draft while composing your email message. Emails that are saved as draft can be opened, edited and sent at a later time. You can view your draft emails in the inbox by touching the Menu option, and then select Drafts.

To discard a message, touch More options then touch Discard in the mail composition window. Touch Discard again to confirm action.

Checking Gmail messages on your Galaxy S6 Edge

Following are steps to access, read and reply to all your Gmail messages on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge device. You may refer to these steps when necessary.

Steps to open new Gmail messages:

You can quickly open and view new Gmail messages on your phone through the Notification Panel. To display the Notification Panel, drag the Status Bar down.

A list of notifications will now be displayed. To open a new Gmail message to view, touch the message from the Notification Panel. If have more than one new Gmail messages to view, simply touch the notification to launch the Gmail inbox and then start viewing contents of each messages.

Steps to open Gmail (thread) messages:

Following are steps to read and reply to all messages from your Gmail inbox:

Touch Apps from the Home screen.

Touch Google to continue.

Select Gmail to open the Gmail inbox.

Touch the message thread you want to open/view. Message threads usually open with the newest message shown.

Other options you can use when viewing message threads from your Gmail inbox on your phone include Replying to Gmail Messages and Forwarding Gmail Messages.

More Hints:

To reply to Gmail Messages, open the Gmail message, touch Reply, compose your reply message and then touch Send. Alternately, you can reply to all by touching More options and then select Reply all.

To forward Gmail Messages, open the Gmail message, touch More options, select Forward, enter a recipient and more message, then touch Send when done.
