ely bar & brasserie, CHQ building, IFSC is to host a unique evening of food, wine and craft beer modelled on The Crimean War Banquet of 1856. Stack A, as the CHQ building was originally called, was completed in 1821 by John Rennie as a cast iron, bonded wine, spirits & tobacco warehouse.

Almost 200 years later, ely invites guests to their stunning vaulted wine cellars to gain a real sense of history and to celebrate the building, Irish produce and the local community. The event will be an opportunity to relax, enjoy great food, wine and company whilst most importantly raising much needed funds for the Barnardos Family Support Centre, Buckingham Street.

Best-selling author, historian & presenter Turtle Bunbury will speak on the evening, giving a brief but insightful detail on the Crimean Banquet, the history of Stack A and the development of the Dublin Docklands.

“There were laid 250 hams, 230 legs of mutton, 250 pieces of beef, 500 meat pies, 100 venison pasties, 100 rice puddings, 250 plum puddings weighing one ton and a half, 200 turkeys and 200 geese, 2,000 rolls, 3,500 lbs of bread, 3 tons of potatoes, 8,500 quart bottles and 3,500 pint bottles ‘of port.” – The Irish Sword on The Crimean War Banquet, 1856

The evening will begin with a drinks reception and a chance to network, followed by a feast styled on the 1856 banquet. The very best of Irish produce, including organic beef and pork from ely’s family farm in The Burren, will be carefully chosen and matched with wine and beer, to be shared and enjoyed by all.

ely banquet for barnardos will be held on Thursday 10th April 2014 from 7pm at ely bar & brasserie, IFSC, Dublin 1. Tickets cost €80, includes attendance to complimentary networking drinks, the banquet and evening entertainment. Proceeds from tickets sales will go to Barnardos Children’s Charity – ely restaurants’ official charity partner since 2007.
