Not long after Dave and I purchased our first home, we made another major purchase and bought ourselves some REAL furniture.   At the time, Dave was still in school working on his Doctorate, and I was working full-time to put him through school.  So as you can imagine we had LOADS of cash just hanging out in our bank account completely at our disposal.   (you KNOW I am kidding right?)

But the hand- me-down couch and table for 2 in our dining room were no longer cutting it.  After all, I decided that was going to be the year to host HIS family at OUR house for Thanksgiving!  ( No pressure right?)  And a little table for two certainly wouldn’t sit his family.   So a new table was a MUST!

After looking around, we ended up at a retail chain furntiture store on a weekend when they were having a big sale.  I fell in love with a counter height table.  It was two tone, stained on top and black on the bottom.  And it had fantastic legs and a little bit of Farmhouse character.  Thankfully, Dave liked it as much as me, and we took the plunge and made our first REAL furniture purchase.

Over the past 9 years that table has been very well loved.  It has sustained a broken leg thanks to our old friend Ruby Dog who early Christmas morning got SO excited she ran and slammed into it and broke it!  Thank goodness my handy Dad was able to repair her with out a problem.  Plus over the years the paint has scratched and the finish on the top is nearly gone.   So a few weeks ago, when my friends at DecoArt offered to allow me to try their Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint to create something I knew it was time to give my well-loved table a makeover.

I LOVE how fresh and clean it looks!  Plus, I took the sander to the table top and roughed up the finish.  Originally I was going to restain it.  But I really love the “weathered” look it has.  It has made me fall in Love with my table all over again!!!!

Just so we have something to comapre to, here is what it looked like “BEFORE”

And another MUCH better after:

The best part about this makeover was how EASY it was to do.  I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner!

First I started by giving it a complete Scrub down with a some mild soap and warm water.

And apparently I should have given my floors a good scrub down while I was at it!!!  Don’t mind my dirtly floor!

Next I sanded down the top.  (Remember, I WAS planning on restaining it.)  But ended up just re-sealing it in it’s ” weathered” roughed up beauty.

Next came the easy part: Painting the legs.

Using a foam brush, I simply painted 3 coats of Americana Decor Chalky Finish  I chose “Everlasting” White as my color (allowing to dry in between)

After allowing the paint to dry overnight.  I then finished the legs by applng 2 coats of Americana Decor Cream Wax.  I love how easy it goes on and leaves a perfect finish.

After a few hours of dry time I couldn’t wait to accessorize her for fall with a bunch of mini pumpkins I picked up!

And I get SERIOUSLY giddy everytime I walk past “her” now!

Now that I have tackled this big project I can’t wait to do some more!
