BRAWLEY – The first of June brought excitement for the North County Coalition for the Arts, Inc (NoCCA), with their appointment to the Imperial County Arts Council at the latest Imperial County Board of Supervisors meeting.

In a special Monday session, the Board of Supervisors appointed NoCCA to “the County’s Arts Council” and “the Imperial County Appointed Arts Council Commission.”

Three Imperial County Arts Commissioners were appointed at the meeting: Hildy Carrillo, Chairman of the City of Calexico Arts Commission, Charla Teeter-Stewart, Program Manager of the Imperial County Film Commission, and Rosemarie Wood, Executive Director of NoCCA.

Of the newly appointed commission, Wood said, “I am really excited and honored to be appointed to this.”

“This allows us to move forward in working with the California Arts Council to get state and local funding for arts in the county,” she said.

Wood has been working for over two years to find the best course of action and “best fit” in coming up with a viable arts program for the whole Valley, Wood said.

Wood believes the partnership between Carrillo, Stewart, and herself is a “win-win situation,” that is “absolutely brilliant.”

“It truly does encompass the entire Valley,” Wood said.

The appointment for Wood, Stewart, and Carrillo spans the next two years, where they will focus on generating funding for the local arts. “Let’s get new money flowing back into our county,” Wood said.

Wood said, “We’re absolutely in the new renaissance age of the arts, and we’re so honored that the Board of Supervisors entrusted us with this honor. We’re looking forward to seeing what more we can do to support arts in the Valley.”
