‘Sultan’ crosses Rs 200 cr in seven days

NEW DELHI : Continuing its strong run at the box office, the Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer 'Sultan’ has crossed the Rs 200 crore figure in just seven days, becoming the first Bollywood film to do so before the end of its opening week.

Trade sources said 'Sultan’ earned Rs 12.92 crore on Tuesday, taking its total earnings in India in seven days to Rs 208.82 crore. 'Sultan’ has also become the first Bollywood film to breach the Rs 200 crore mark before the end of the opening week. All the other RS 200/RS 300 crore films like 'PK’, 'Bajrangi Bhaijan’, 'Dhoom 3’ , 'Kick’, 'Chennai Express’, 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, 'Happy New Year’ and '3 Idiots’ crossed the Rs 200 crore mark only after the end of the opening week. The film has crossed the lifetime earnings of the Salman Khan’s earlier hit 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ Rs 207.4 crore. Also, with its continuing strong run, trade sources say the film is expected to cross earnings of Chennai Express Rs 226.7 crore and Kick Rs 233 crore as well. If that happens, 'Sultan’ will become the fourth highest grosser ever (after 'PK’, 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and 'Dhoom 3’) in just nine days. Ever since its release on Eid , 'Sultan’ has been shattering box office records. It crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in just three days, after having an opening day of close to RS 40 crore. Produced by Yashraj films and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Sultan’ is a biopic on life of Olympian wrestler Sultan Ali Khan with Salman featured in the title role and Anushka Sharma playing his beloved Aarfa.
