Levy nació en Cojimar, Cuba. Su abuelo materno era judío (el origen de su apellido, Levy), pero creció en una casa no religiosa. Fue criado por su madre soltera, Barbara. Levy inmigró a Miami, Florida, cuando tenía catorce años. Asistió a la escuela secundaria, después de la cual estudió la administración de empresa en una beca del béisbol en la universidad de San Tomás. Más tarde fue a Los Ángeles para estudiar la interpretación y siguió sus estudios de interpretación en Miami y Ciudad de México.
William Levy se le conoce por diversos romances con diferentes actrices y artistas de la farandula mundial pero al parecer todo acaba de terminar al entrar en su vida la actriz Elizabeth Gutierrez con la que ha procreado dos hijos que recientemente han visto los medios de prensa de todo el mundo.
