LES VOIX HUMAINES, A FESTIVAL THAT WILL NOT RETURN TO CUBA.

When there are still five days to close the Festival Les Voix Humaines, parting the air and an event organized by the office of maestro Leo Brouwer feel. Directed by musicologist Isabelle Hernandez, the event has gathered since last September 25 important figures on the international scene as the US group Take 6 and the Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes. However, this issue is put an end to such acclaimed musical event.
Les Voix Humaines born with the intention of continuing the Leo Brouwer Festival concluded and, since its inception, had as its fundamental premise the plurality of participants, styles and proposals. Along with the musical performances, plays and film screenings, the festival also called to the defense of the environment and a commitment to peace.
Its director said in a recent interview with the official press that this “is an inclusive festival, without prejudice or sectarianism.” He made it clear that the event will not be repeated “because it is a very expensive undertaking and not enough sponsorship”. Material problems again and snatch the Cuban audience an invaluable spiritual and artistic gifts.
The festival also had to deal with the ossified structures of the Ministry of Culture, although spaces could have managed more efficiently in the manner of the Cuban Art Factory (FAC). But it was not enough. Something of this magnitude would have required more widely in the national media and wider availability of resources.

Les Voix Humaines managed to accumulate shares undeniable creative and performing talent and prestige thanks to the wide appeal of the guitarist and conductor Leo Brouwer. It was his people skills and excellent personal relationships that called for figures like German countertenor Andreas Scholl and singer Tania Libertad.

LES VOIX HUMAINES, UN FESTIVAL QUE NO REGRESARÁ A CUBA.

Cuando todavía quedan cinco días para el cierre del Festival Les Voix Humaines, ya se sienten los aires de despedida de un evento organizado por la oficina del maestro Leo Brouwer. Dirigida por la musicóloga Isabelle Hernández, la cita ha reunido desde el pasado 25 de septiembre a importantes figuras del panorama internacional como la agrupación estadounidense Take 6 y la cantante portuguesa Dulce Pontes. Sin embargo, con esta edición se pone punto final al tan aplaudido encuentro musical.
Les Voix Humaines nació con la intención de dar continuidad al concluido Festival Leo Brouwer y, desde sus inicios, tuvo como premisa fundamental la pluralidad de participantes, estilos y propuestas. Junto a las presentaciones musicales, las obras de teatro y las proyecciones de cine, el festival hizo también un llamado a la defensa del medio ambiente y una apuesta por la paz.
Su directora expresó en una reciente entrevista con la prensa oficial que este “es un festival inclusivo, sin prejuicios ni sectarismos”. Dejó claro que el evento no se repetirá “porque es una empresa muy costosa y no hay suficientes patrocinios”. Los problemas materiales vuelven a arrebatarle así a la audiencia cubana un invaluable regalo espiritual y artístico.
El festival ha debido bregar también con las anquilosadas estructuras del Ministerio de Cultura, aunque ha podido contar con espacios más eficientemente gestionados a la manera de la Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC). Pero no ha sido suficiente. Algo de tal envergadura hubiera necesitado una mayor difusión en los medios nacionales y más amplia disponibilidad de recursos.

Les Voix Humaines logró acumular cuotas innegables de talento creador e interpretativo gracias al prestigio y la amplia convocatoria del guitarrista y director de orquesta Leo Brouwer. Fue su don de gente y sus excelentes relaciones personales las que convocaron a figuras como el contratenor alemán Andreas Scholl y la cantante Tania Libertad.
Los tropiezos materiales y el mal estado de muchos escenarios habaneros se han sentido, como en el caso del concierto del pianista cubano Marcos Madrigal junto a la soprano Johana Simón programado para el cine 23 y 12, en el Vedado, que por desperfectos con el aire acondicionado ha debido trasladarse al cine Chaplin. A pesar del tropiezo, los espectadores aún tienen la oportunidad de escuchar el próximo viernes una selección de la ópera La voz humana (1930) del francés Francis Poulenc, sobre un libreto de Jean Cocteau.
Como a un visitante veloz que toca a la puerta, nos deslumbra y se va corriendo hacia otro lugar, así los cubanos tendremos que decirle “hola y adiós” a este evento. No obstante, aún queda la esperanza de que la puerta no se haya cerrado del todo y un soplo de recursos, apoyos y patrocinios haga retornar a Les Voix Humaines a los escenarios nacionales.
