DocsApp, an online medical consultation platform, has raised $1.2 million (Rs 8 crore) from Facebook’s angel investors. Rebright Partners, a Japanese venture capital company led the seed funding round in collaboration with Rebright Partners’ founding general partner, Takeshi Ebihara. Other contributors included Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman.
The funds will be used to expand DocsApp’s operations and hire more talent, in addition to developing innovative technological products and tools that will enhance seamless user-experience in the medical space.
DocsApp was founded last year by Enbasekar Dinadayalane and Satish Kannan, alumni of IIT Madras, at IIT Madras Research Park. The health-tech startup team has now grown to 36 members. The main goal of the company is to use its mobile application to ensure that people across India can access primary healthcare services easily, quickly and affordably. Nine specialties are currently being supported by the app, including dermatology, pediatrics, gynecology, general medicine, psychiatry, sexology, weight management, and pre- and post- pregnancy diet & fitness.

The turnaround time for patients seeking doctor consultations is 30 minutes. Consultation fees for psychiatry and sex-related issues range from Rs 250 to Rs 500, while the consultation fee for gynecology, dermatology, paediatrics and general medicine is about Rs 150 (Conversion: I Indian Rupee = US$0.015).
Satish Kannan, DocsApp CEO & Co-Founder, said that mobile phones are now a significant communication medium countrywide. This is because there are about 200 million smartphone users, and mobile networks have continued to infiltrate all corners of the globe, including secluded rural areas.

According to Satish, about 70% of common health issues can be managed online. He also added that the platform will help them take specialized medical care to every part of India, even to the remotest areas, as well as enable people to get expert consultations whenever, and wherever, they need it.
The majority of DocsApp users come from major towns including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Chennai. The platform now has over 80,000 users and around 15,000 of them use it at least once every month. The app manages to merge advanced technology and specialist doctors. These two factors combined make this app potentially poised to revolutionize India’s primary healthcare.
