Stephanie Waguespack Wall Schexnayder

Stephanie Waguespack Wall Schexnayder was a smart, funny and courageous person who dearly loved her family and community. A beautiful person, inside and out, she never met a stranger and worked tirelessly to help others. She died unexpectedly at the age of 45, leaving behind her adoring husband, Carl Michael Schexnayder of Gonzales; her two loving daughters, Katherine Elise Wall and Anna Grace Wall of Gonzales; step daughter Susie and husband Ben Glueck of Baton Rouge; step son Mike Schexnayder and fiancée Leslie Strate of Gonzales; step-grandchildren Patrick and William Glueck; along with many other loved ones who depended daily on her kindness, strength and wisdom.

Born in Baton Rouge on July 18, 1969, to proud parents Hickley M. Waguespack Jr. of Gonzales and Judy Bertrand Waguespack of Plaquemine, she grew up in Gonzales along with her older sister, Rebecca Lynn Villar of Gonzales and her younger brother, Stephen Michael Waguespack of Baton Rouge. She graduated from East Ascension High School, the University of Missouri, and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center and was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1994.

Throughout her distinguished and rewarding career as an attorney and certified domestic mediator, she helped countless people through her compassionate disposition, intelligent advocacy, sharp wit and thoughtful nature. She was steadfast in her dedication to serving others, exemplified by her participation in numerous boards including but not limited to the Ascension Chamber of Commerce, the 23rd Judicial District Bar Association, the Ascension Parish Notarial Commission, the Ascension Parish Cancer/Leukemia Committee, Volunteer Ascension, the Baton Rouge Metro YMCA Board at Lamar Dixon Expo Center, the Woman’s Advisory Counsel for St. Elizabeth Hospital and the St. Theresa Alumni Board, serving in officer positions for many of these organizations throughout her years of involvement.

She established the continuing legal education (CLE) seminar for the local attorneys of the 23rd Judicial District Bar Association, was a member of the first Leadership Ascension Graduating Class of 1995/1996, received the Louisiana State Bar Association Crystal Gavel Award in 2002 and the St. Theresa of Avila School Distinguished Graduate award in 2006.

Along with her husband Mike, daughters Kate and Anna, mother Judy, sister Becky and brother Stephen, she is also survived by her sister’s husband Todd Villar, brother’s wife Colleen Guste Waguespack; nieces Tasha Villar and fiancé Keith Andrepont of Baton Rouge and Kayla Villar of Lafayette; and nephews Craig, Christopher and Brady Waguespack of Baton Rouge. Stephanie was preceded in death by her brother Craig Stephen Waguespack and her father Hickley.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Ourso Funeral Home. Visiting will resume Friday at St. Theresa of Avila Church from 9:00 a.m. until funeral services held at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations by made to the St. Elizabeth/Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Heart of the Hero Program, 4950 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, La, 70809.
