Since no internet service provider is willing to do it, a Singaporean company is coming in to close the gap by offering fibre internet packages that are twice as fast – at 1Gbps!

ViewQwest, an internet service provider based in Singapore, has announced that they have entered the Malaysian market via a joint partnership with local telecommunications engineering services company, Televenture Sdn Bhd, according to a report by Lowyat.net.

The company made huge waves in Singapore 2 years ago after announcing a fibre internet plan with speed as fast as 2Gbps. Then, Malaysia’s fastest internet plan was only 100Gbps, and were only available in very selected areas. Even today, high-speed fibre internet is only available in select locations in Malaysia.

The new company is named as ViewQwest Sdn Bhd, and has actually begun operations in the country. The company had been rolling out its fibre network in key business districts, and currently own a 100km fibre optic cables in three major locations: the Golden Triangle, Bangsar South and Cyberjaya.

Lowyat.net also got in touch with the company’s PR representatives, who confirmed that the company has no consumer-level internet plans available, but corporate plans are already open for registration in selected commercial buildings in Bangsar South.

As of this time, the fastest internet line available is 500Mbps offered by Time Fibre that cost RM299 per month, but are only limited to high-rise buildings around the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor. TM, the largest ISP in the country, currently only offer fibre internet packages at a maximum of 100Mbps, for RM399 per month.

In comparison, ViewQwest’s fibre Internet plans in Singapore starts from as low as S$49.90 (about RM150) per month for the 1Gbps option, while the 2GB fibre plan has a starting subscription price of S$69.90 (about RM210) per month.
