Thistlewood Farms

Created by:  Karianne

Let’s start with a dear friend of mine…Karianne from Thistlewood Farms.   Karianne has a unique style blog…one that combines magical storytelling along with DIY’s …Farmhouse Decorating Ideas and so much more.  To be honest…Karianne was Joanna Gaines before Joanna Gaines (love them both : ) When you drop by you are going to feel totally at home.  You are also going to find some brilliant insights on Farmhouse Style Home Decor that you can use and be inspired by.  DIY’s that will guide enable you to add incredible Farmhouse Style Accessories to your home on a budget and more.  Let me show you a few of my favorite things over at Thistlewood…

The one DIY that says Thistlewood is the Giant Chalkboard Calendar…you see it every where…but now let’s see how it was made…if this piece doesn’t scream Farmhouse I don’t know what does.  You may not find the exact same windows to create with…but you will have the basics to apply to your own findings.  This is just a mini masterpiece!

Here’s just a quick glimpse into Karianne’s style…

This girl has style!  Take the tour!

You must catch a story or two…this one is my absolute favorite…warm your heart with a read of The Tree Whisperer.

There is so much to see…just explore the dashboard and experience Thistlewood at your own pace…believe me you will be glad you did!  Always something new…always updates…always FUN!

Time for Tips from Karianne:

1.  Add Life to your space for the cost of a fancy cup of coffee with a bundle of fresh flowers.  Layer flowers in inexpensive vases and containers like milk glass and mason jars.  You can group the flowers for a fun display or simply create one stunning arrangement as a center piece.  For some of Kari’s Flower arranging creations…click here and here.

2.  Add a little farmhouse to your furniture and make it your own with paint and a decorative finish.  Rescue a thrift store find with a simple layer of gray paint, then distress with 120 grit sandpaper and seal to create a one-of-a-kind piece for your home.

Looking for the perfect French Experience…let’s begin with A Very French Morning…you will feel like you have been friends for years!

If you want to add a touch of the French Landscape to your home through a piece of art…please visit this Step by Step Tutorial on Faux Finishing a Cross Plaque.  It will look like you brought it home directly from the French Countryside.

Time to enjoy a  tour or two or three…and more…gorgeous!

You must check out Anita’s post on 7 Ways to Add Farmhouse Style to your Home… for example adding Vintage Bottles…love that tip…well there are 6 more to add French Farmhouse Beauty.

I have to tell you about Anita’s Book French Accents where she presents a Farmhouse French Style for Today’s Home…it’s a Wonderland of the French Farmhouse World.  Pick up a signed copy on Anita’s Blog or hop on over to Amazon.  You need this one on your shelf!

Time for Tips from Anita

1.  Add rusty, crusty and chippy items to your home.  These are things with age or patina on them.  It can be a rusty iron piece made from iron, or a chair with chipped paint.  it can even be something that is new made to look old.  You can see the old patina shown on the trunk, and the chipped paint on the old iron bed frame.

2.  Add something made with grain sacks for the French Farmhouse Style.  I love to use the fabric for upholstery or even pillows.  If you are looking for a no-sew option, they buy a body pillow (they can be found at the discount store) and stuff that into the grain sack.  Although each grain sack is a different size, typically the body pillows fit inside a grain sack perfectly.  Here is a post that has 6 Different Grain Sack Projects.  Hope that inspires you!

Drop by and visit Anita and enjoy a buttery croissant together!  There are so many DIY’s…Decorating Tips…Tours and more waiting for you!

Knick of Time
Vintage Farmhouse Living

Created by Angie

Welcome to Knick of Time where Angie works her Farmhouse Style Magic.  You will not believe how many incredible DIY Projects she has to share along with Unique and Amazing Upcyled Creations.  I swear Angie can take anything and transform it into a Farmhouse Gem!  Angie is the only person that I know that can take a broken chair and make a half a dozen sensational masterpieces from it.  She is always thinking outside of the box so trust me…you will never be bored when you are on her fabulous blog.  You are really in for a treat…you are going to feel a true Farmhouse Essence here and you are GUARANTEED to be inspired.  Warning…you are probably going to want to hit your local Thrift Store after this : )

What would you do with some old graters and a chippy cabinet door?  Do you have to think about it?  Well Angie didn’t…it was just a natural to her to make the graters into clipboards…attach them to her chippy door and display wonderful photos…Farmhouse Style!  You can see how she made it and I have a feeling you will be looking for some old graters yourself!

I adore all of Angie’s Tiered Stands…each one is so unique.  This one is especially wonderful with the Thrifted white enameled bowls…Farmhouse Perfection!  Angie will show you exactly how she put together this beauty…the combinations and possibilities are truly endless!

Prepare to be amazed…here are some of those Repurposed Chairs I was talking about…color me impressed!!!  Oh …there are plenty more repurposed chairs on the site but I know you will find them as you travel through!

See how Angie used some reclaimed wood to design her Spring Time Entry Way…does this say WELCOME or what!

How great is this Upcycled piece that combines Industrial and Farmhouse Style!  Are you in love with the Mason Jar Vase?  I know I am…one fabulous Farmhouse Fresh Creation!

Every Farmhouse needs a Rustic Hanging Crate…don’t you think!  Well Angie is going to show you how to build one step-by-step.  Oh and if you are looking for some amazing Stencils to create with… stop by Angie’s Stencil Store where you can get unique and very affordable Farmhouse Stencils for all kinds of different projects.

Time for a Tip from Angie

Think outside the original purpose of an item.  An old seed bag can become framed wall art, or be used to upholster furniture, and a collection of ironstone pitchers can be hung at the top of a window, and used as a curtain “valance” of sorts.   Ladles can become hanging candle holders and bowls and pie tins can become tiered stands.  Repurposing farmhouse finds gives them a new use, rather than just becoming a collection gathering dust on a mantle!

Drop by and enjoy an afternoon with Angie…she has LOTS to show you!!!

If you happen to be lucky enough to have or find an vintage Pizza Peel or Bread Board…Jamie will show you how simple it is to turn it into Fabulous Farmhouse Wall Art! It’s quick …easy and fun!

Jamie too a touch of Inspiration from Joanna Gaines and crated her very own DIY Dutch Tulip Crate and shares the how to with you!

Jamie can even show you How to have Less Clutter… A Road to Sparkling!

Oh the Farmhouse Jamie can create with such simple items like a dough bowl.  She uses this beautiful dough bowl in many different ways…but I adore this one…just filled with vintage pages.  I think everyone needs a few dough bowls!

Time for Tips from Jamie

1.  Jamie feels as though Less is More.  “I’m somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to decorating and have my favorite items that I use over and over in different ways.  You don’t need a lot of decorative pieces to have a well designed farmhouse style.  Having fewer things out at one time allows you to  completely enjoy each individual piece and doesn’t overwhelm your decor.  Then those items can be switched out for others that you have stored away.  Your decorating can constantly look new and fresh while inspiring you to find unique ways to highlight what you have.

2.  Farmhouse Decorating involves layers.  Use old books, suitcases or rustic footstools to add height to a display.  Lean a sign or old picture frame against a mirror or artwork that is hanging over the mantel.  Drap a piece of textured fabric into a simple vignette.  Display a boxwood topiary inside of a woven basket.

There is so much more to see and learn over at Anderson+Grant…DIY’s…Home Decor Inspiration…Recipes and more…drop by and you just might be lucky enough to share a Rustic Apple Muffins with Crumb Topping with a hot cup of coffee!

Time for a Tip from Liz

“Farmhouse Style Decorating is all about telling a story with your home.  Collect pieces of furniture over time rather than buying matching sets, and decorate with items that are meaningful to you and have a sense of history.  Maybe use your grandmother’s armoire in the living room to store extra blanets or books.  Find an old black and white picture of your family members to frame as wall art.  Use classic fabrics such as linen and lots of natural wood tones to create a warm and inviting space.  And when in double, always bring in touches of nature to complete your decor.  A simple tree branch in a glass vase or someflower clippings from the garden are the perfect accessories to decorate with.”

There is just so much more to see and experience…so drop by and visit…you might be lucky…Liz could be taking out her fabulous Salted Caramel Apple Crisp from the oven and I am sure she will offer you some!  Enjoy!

Time for a Tip from Laura

“I believe decorating in a farmhouse style is all about making things comfortable and welcoming and that tell a story.  The goal is for your home to be beautiful but approachable and not seem like is untouchable.  One of the easiest ways to do that is with a mixture of textures.  Mixing up beautiful wood with painted surfaces, hardwood floors, galvanized anything, are the best ways to bring a sense of farmhouse into a home.  Whenever possible, I try to use vintage pieces, but there are also many beautiful reproduction options available that can bring in the same feeling.  Decorating your home should be done over time and with joy!

There is so much more to see over at Finding Home Farms…stop by and Laura might whip you up one of these yummy Maple Martini’s!
