finally somebody else said it. i've been saying it for a long time.

peoples and countries are in conflict at various times for various
reasons, and those reasons change all the time. at various times we
were at war with the british, germans, japanese, you name our best
allies. we were allies with the chinese, russians.

IMO people are afraid trump will turn the world upside down by making
many potentially synergetic business deals with russia. imagine the
germans if the USA and russia suddely support each other and britain
came along for the ride? then italy?

putin may not be the most trustable person in the world, but is
merkel? who is?

excellent post steven.

Maybe you guys should start reading the papers. Or something.

The fact is that Putin considers the US as an enemy. The root of all evil.

What is the cause for that? His KGB training makes him likely bent that
way, but there's one reason above others: NATO enlargement. You can also
add the deployment of the missile shield into that package.

Other US national projects that haven't helped, is the Iraq war. These
are *all* GWB projects.

If you want to blame someone (other than Putin) for the worsening of the
relations, it's GWB. Obama is largely reaping the fruit. His
contribution to the mess is giving in, which for Putin is a sign of
weakness and encouragement.

We've already established that if the worsening of the relations can be
pinned on any one person at all, it can't be pinned on Obama. So, don't
start with that again.

Of course he doesn't seem to hate Trump. Trump is a dream come true for
him. But not for imagined altruistic reasons.

So? The NATO and the missiles will remain. The Putin grievances. If, God
forbid, Trump is elected, he too will have to choose his stance WRT them.

What makes you think it will be pulling NATO and the missiles out?

He's also promised to build a Great Wall. You don't have to dig in too
deep to know that he won't do anything about either.

Election rhetoric is election rhetoric. If rhetoric targeted at
imbeciles gets you to office, well, then it does.

That's what you think. The truth is, you shouldn't be thinking.

There is a larger picture. The US is the lone super power ATM. It's in
everyone's interests what this power stands for.

So why would you be surprised if Putin pays as well?

At least he is spending far less money.
He uses anonymous internet trolls for lies and trolling not mass
media.

As for the two us, I believe he's a Chinese so kinda dumb and
paranoid of you to link him with Putin. It only shows the fear
great Vlad has instilled in your ilk.

As for me, I like the truth, fun so I post.

so invest with clinton/obama, people with 0 business experience
running the country or gw bush starting lingering wars. i'd think the
usa with a better mfg base and trillions not wasted on wars might be
more attractive. maybe not to a german.

He plans to return to the senate as an independent, not running as one. Missed his last chance to switch before the convention. Unlike '92, when Perot quit and managed to jump back in only because he ran as an independent in the first place. A bit ironic that Bill Clinton probably owes his presidency to Perot, and Hillary too by extension if she wins.

Get some decent math skill. If he had the opportunity to surpass Federer with 17 slam with another 5 slams why wouldn't he have better change of passing Nadal if he win this years USO just putting him 1 behind Nadal ?

A weighty sentiment of war and anti-war: Does a visa for a Muslim justify seeing many more Muslims getting killed or displaced in their own country? Can we put the Constitution and its mention of liberty in today's "endless war for others" framework?

acoustic@panix.com (lo yeeOn): Jul 31 12:27AM

Mother of slain soldier in the Iraq War said she told her son:

"Be safe,
and don't become hero for me,
just be my son,
come back as a son."

He came back as a hero for her, or so was the way she was comforted.

This mother's sentiment is probably widely shared by all mothers of
soldiers in war. It was poignantly reflected on in a conversation
between a soldier who faithfully served as a prison guard, Dzhurabaev,
and his prisoner of war, Ogarkov, in the 2015 film

"Two in the Steppe" or "The Road to Berlin"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjHTWMP_T1U

@54:49

In the middle of the night on the Steppe, with howling wind and
thunderstorm in the background. Ogarkov and Dzhurabaev were spending
the night behind a large haystack with the former sleeping while the
latter stoking a fire, with a rifle by his side.

"Ogarkov, Ogarkov. Can you write?"

"Write what?"

"Can you write a letter?"

"Where?"

"To the staff headquarters? Wait, we will be with you soon?"

"No, I need to write home, to my mother."

"What do you want to write?"

"Write that we're fighting the Germans."

"She knows that."

"From the war you need to write something heroic."

"What?"

"Heroic. Say, write that you're a convoy."

"A what?"

"A convoy"

"You are conveying me, you are fulfilling a very important order."

"No. They'll think it's bad that I'm serving in a prison, not the
front."

"That's because you need to write to your father, not mother."

"The father will understand."

"My father died. At the front. In '41."

[A long pause.]

"Write about the Steppe."

"What?"

"The Steppe here looks a lot like at home..."

"The Steppe... And the wind..."

[The mother would learn that the war would soon devour her son too.]

Shaun Smith's mother Patricia, Sergeant Bob O'Connor's sister Sarah,
Private Lee Ellis's mother Ronnie Barker, names that have appeared
recently in the news in connection with the Iraq and Libya Wars, have
all shared a mother's instinct, and more broadly that of a sister's,
which is exactly the feeling of Ghazala Khan who lost her son in one
of these sinister wars.

No sweet words or political pageantry can bring back a life.

So why was it sacrificed?

And for whom?

Iraq did not attack America, nor threatened it!

So Gazella's son died in vain, even if he might have saved other
soldiers lives.

It is because none of these American soldiers needed to be in Iraq and
exposed to danger in the first place.

They were exposed to danger, purely because of the very circumstance
of a war - a war that was launched on sinister lies and that did not
have to happen in the first place.

Neither was the war in Libya necessary.

America's liberty was not affected by Gaddafi or his government.

Neither did the Taliban attack America, nor threaten it.

Warmongers used 9/11 to justify the invasion and occupation of
Afghanistan. All American deaths, as tragic as any untimely death is,
were simply incidental to Washington's decision to invade and occupy a
sovereign country which didn't want us there.

The politicians who would welcome a few Muslims who seek residence
here but callously kill many times more Muslims in the Middle East and
in Central Asia are not doing anybody a service.

That's not what liberty is about.

I consider visas for Muslims that exist today a cheap bribe offered to
the Muslim community in exchange for its support of the endless "War
on Terror" that kills Mulsims in the Middle East and in Central Asia
with immunity.

Since George Bush initiated the "War on Terror", those in the
Philippines who are seeking independence from the government have been
labeled by the pro-west governments and western media as terrorists.

Even though they are freedom fighters by any definition, Washington
and its propaganda arm have invariably lumped their Islamic belief
with their activities as that of the terrorists.

Washington further made sure that the whole world falls in line by
saying if you're not with "us" then you're against "us", not a bit
subtle in threatening them with our bombs.

The "War on Terror" has been unmistakably anti-Muslim, too bad that
some Muslims are so short-sighted that they are willing to sacrifice
many more Muslims, particularly their lives, to just ensure that their
existence in the eyes of the authorities is protected.

To me, the right approach is not to wave the little blue book of the
Constitution in front of the camera and ask "have you read it?"

To me, it is rather that we have a policy that stops the wars in the
Middle East and other parts of the world now so that "terrorism" will
have no more reason to thrive. When that happens, people on this
planet can then freely mingle and resettle in a place of their own
choosing. Anything short of stopping our blood-gutted wars that kill
untold numbers of Muslims will simply not do!

And this is a relevant piece of information:
Jeremy Bash, who served as chief of staff for the Pentagon and the
CIA, said Mrs Clinton would both escalate the fight against the
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and work to get Bashar
al-Assad, the Syrian president, "out of there".

"A Clinton administration will not shrink from making clear to the
world exactly what the Assad regime is," he said in an exclusive
interview with The Telegraph. "It is a murderous regime that
violates human rights; that has violated international law; used
chemical weapons against his own people; has killed hundreds of
thousands of people, including tens of thousands of children."

So Hillary is already itching for a war with Syria and a showdown with
Russia and the UK Telegraph has already screamed:

"Hillary Clinton will order a "full review" of the United States'
strategy on Syria as a "first key task" of her presidency,
resetting the policy to emphasise the "murderous" nature of the
Assad regime," foreign policy adviser with her campaign has said.

In light of who Hillary is, American voters will do well to not just
let some sound bites confuse their thinking. War over Syria will be
like the war over Iraq and Afghanistan or worse. It won't be a good
thing for anybody.
