I heard the Saban wanted to move north so he could compete with Meyer on a more regular basis.

The whole athletic department is a disaster right now - they just fired their AD and got a new one - who blew the Cubit firing

Utter train wreck emblematic of the state of the state, frankly. Probably the most underachieving athletic department in the Bigger Ten

Yes, it is, sad to say. We are going through a protracted fallow period.
We usually do well once in ten years, but I don't see that this decade is
going to have one of those years.

Like basketball, if we get a decent football coach that isn't crookeder
than a Kentucky walking stick, they get hired away to go to Texas or
Kansas or something.

I don't think the prediction markets deal in mills.

That is sheer rookie, and the way it was done shows little hope he can
grow into the job -- he's got too far to go. They should fire both him
and the chancellor who hired him.

Yup. It is really sad to go back home these days -- everything is scruffy.

To a first approximation it increase linearly with _speed_.
_Power_ dissipation increases with the square of _speed_.
You cannot get the physics right. I am not taking your

You do have to be careful not to have them both on the car when drive on a road that takes both or you'll get billed twice. At least that was a problem on NC's only toll road. Apparently you're supposed to keep one in a foil-lined "no-read bag"

NC takes Sunpass? My understanding is that it was Florida-only. But I see
you are right.

'Twould be hard on one of my cars, as the devices are essentially
mounted permanently. (The other has a suction-cup Florida device, easy
to put inside of foil.)

Maybe I'll just go shunpiking. As I am semi-retired, shouldn't be too hard. :)

Yup, you can drive all the way up from Florida to use you Sunpass on our single 18 mile long tollway.

There's something technical going on that I haven't learned the details of as they keep mentioning that NC's system is a bridge of some sort between the yankees' EZPASS and the southern Sunpass. Maybe something along the way to a universal transponder, I dunno. Or maybe just marketing hype.

> Maybe I'll just go shunpiking. As I am semi-retired, shouldn't be too hard. :)

From my limited driving experience in Florida, it seems to be pretty tough to do there, especially if you have to go to or from the Orlando airport.

I mean't in North Carolina -- there is no friggin' way in Florida. And
you are right about the Orlando airport, 45 minutes down the tollway from
my Cocoa Beach condo, or 2 hours via the most stoplight-infested highway
I've ever seen, US-192.

I dunno, looks like it was pretty well vetted by a well respected panel:

Zuckerberg to create special German police division

Altimer McDaniel <altiemcd@aol.com>: Mar 05 07:45PM

to arrest and imprison redneck trash German citizens who say bad things
about innocent Muslim pilgrims who are looking for better lives. If you
are German and decide to pop on Facebook and insult an innocent pilgrim,
well, welcome to jail.

Zuckerberg will get these hateful, white pride Germans, which are
virtually all of them, in line. Typical uber-liberal who wishes to crush
dissent with violence and hatred. It being Germany, he'll probably get
what he wants. They don't have the freedoms that Americans take for
granted.

http://is.gd/uOCOku

Zuckerberg and the Facebook thoughtpolice

B

4 March 2016

Get spiked by email

Billionaire, alleged tax-dodger, CEO and all-round PC dullard Mark
Zuckerberg has said Facebook is not doing enough to combat hate speech.

At a recent townhall event in Berlin he pledged to work closer with the
German authorities, and even offered to fund a section of the German
police, in order to help Facebook expand its view of 'protected groups'
and restrict 'hate speech against migrants'.

Pardon my German, but what utter scheisse.

What Zuckerberg seems to be missing is that Facebook is supposed to be
about enabling the free interaction of people – all this talk of
'protected groups' and 'hate speech' should be anathema to him. But
Zuckerberg subscribes to the typical metropolitan, Silicon-Valley-via-Ivy-
League brand of faux-liberalism, which actually has a lot in common with
the fascism he claims to despise.

'Hate speech has no place on Facebook or in our community', he said.
'Until recently in Germany I don't think we were doing a good enough job,
and I think we will continue needing to do a better and better job.'
Related categories
Social media

But how exactly is Zuckerberg, or anyone else, going to decide what hate
speech is? It's just as subjective as, say, people's favourite songs.
Just as one person's 'Stairway to Heaven' might be another's 'Birdie
Song', so one person's call for controlled migration is another's idea of
a Nuremberg speech.

Maybe you think we should open the borders, or maybe you think we should
turn the boats back. The point is, both opinions (and all in between)
have exactly the same right to be aired on the streets, on campuses and,
yes, even on Facebook.

Believing in free speech means that everyone, whether they are a member
of PEGIDA or Unite Against Fascism, should be entitled to express their
view. They should also be prepared to be heavily criticised for their
opinions. But they should not be silenced because a government, or a tech
billionaire, disagrees with them.

In a truly free society there would be no 'protected groups' and there
would be no bans on 'hate speech'. Just because you approve of who the
iron fist is punching today does not mean you are protected from
receiving a ferrous uppercut tomorrow.
