Lakers got killed in Q3 and couldn't come back - not a decent showing even for
a BTB on either end - give someone else Kobe's 18 misses and it might have been
a lot closer - play some decent D in the paint (60 pts by NOP) and maybe you
get a W. 6 guys in DFs is always nice - Ed 1 basket short of a DD. Price
tossed for a flagrant 1 trying to block a shot from behind. Lakers really
falling asleep on D and not getting great shots. 102-109 Lakers lose by 7.

NEW ORLEANS -- Anthony Davis had 25 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked

Tyreke Evans had 19 points and 11 assists for New Orleans. Ryan
Anderson and Jrue Holiday each added 17 points.

Kobe Bryant scored 33 on 10-of-28 shooting, one night after setting the
NBA record for most missed field goals in a career.

The Lakers were as close as 63-60 on Lin's jumper from about 4 feet

Pelicans closed the period on a 22-12 run that included nine points
from Holiday.

Lakers-Pelicans Preview (20141112)
By NOEY KUPCHAN Posted Nov 12 2014 1:33AM

No one in NBA history has missed more shots than Kobe Bryant. He's having
an especially hard time finding his stroke in his 19th season.

Bryant and the struggling Los Angeles Lakers try to get on track Wednesday
night when they visit the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers (1-6) got by Charlotte 107-92 on Sunday for their first win, but
their woes resumed in Tuesday's 107-102 loss at Memphis. Bryant finished
with 28 points while shooting 10 of 26, surpassing Boston Celtics great
John Havlicek with 13,421 missed shots over the course of his career.

While Bryant leads the league in scoring with 26.7 points per game, he's
been held to 39.3 percent from the floor - well off his career mark of
45.3. The 16-time All-Star has shot below 45.0 percent in every game thus
far.

Carlos Boozer added 20 points Tuesday as the Lakers cut a 17-point deficit
to three with 37 seconds left. Los Angeles, giving up an NBA-worst 111.9
points per contest, allowed the Grizzlies to shoot 52.6 percent.

"I guess it just kind of sums up our season thus far," point guard Jeremy
Lin said. "We did enough to learn and be there and didn't do enough to
win."

The Pelicans (3-3) had limited teams to an average of 95.2 points in their
first five games before falling 118-111 at Cleveland on Monday. Ryan
Anderson scored 32 points off the bench while Anthony Davis added 27 and 14
rebounds, but New Orleans had no answer defensively for the Cavaliers, who
made 13 3-pointers and shot 48.1 percent from beyond the arc.

"In order for you to become one of the best you have to play the best and
learn from them," Davis said. "I love playing against LeBron (James) and
the Cavs. They're a tough team. They have three players who can score the
ball at will. We broke down defensively. They scored 118 points. We can't
allow teams to do that."

The Pelicans, though, may be able to stifle the Lakers on the perimeter -
Los Angeles gets only 15.4 percent of its 102.7 points per game from beyond
the arc, ranking 28th.

Davis is averaging 24.8 points to go along with NBA bests of 13.0 boards
and 4.2 blocks per game.

"He's one of the elite players," James said. "It doesn't compare to
anybody."

Davis averaged 25.0 points on 62.2 percent shooting as New Orleans took two
of three from Los Angeles last season, snapping an 11-game losing streak in
the series.

Despite the Lakers' early struggles, New Orleans knows better than to take
them lightly.

"They have Kobe. And they have some veterans on their team that have won a
lot of games in Boozer and Lin," coach Monty Williams said. "They look like
they battle and scrap every game.

"We have to go out and play a lot better than we played (Monday) night."

Bryant, who didn't face the Pelicans last season due to injury, is
averaging 28.1 points against them for his highest career mark against any
team. He finished with 42 and 12 assists during his last visit to New
Orleans, a 108-102 victory March 6, 2013.

Lin and Boozer are averaging 17.0 and 16.3 points, respectively, over the
last three games.

The Lakers will again be without guard Wayne Ellington Jr., who has been
granted an indefinite leave of absence after his father was shot and killed
over the weekend. He is averaging 7.8 points off the bench.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzlies - Recap - November 11, 2014 - ESPN
Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- On a night when Kobe Bryant set the record for most
missed field goals in an NBA career, the Memphis Grizzlies extended
their winning streak at home.

Mike Conley scored 23 points and the Grizzlies finally got a strong
effort from their struggling bench to turn away the Los Angeles Lakers
107-102 on Tuesday night.

It was the 17th straight regular-season home victory for Memphis,
dating to last season.

The Lakers put together a furious rally after trailing by 17 in the
fourth quarter, including 11 straight points. Los Angeles was down
105-102 with about 30 seconds left when Jordan Hill missed a 21-foot
jumper, leading to an exasperated look from Bryant in the right corner.

After Hill's miss, Zach Randolph scored on a putback of Marc Gasol 's
shot that was blocked by Ed Davis with 5.2 seconds remaining, providing
the final margin.

"You've got to understand what's going on with the game and what's
going on at that point in the situation," Lakers coach Byron Scott
said.

The Lakers played without reserve guard Wayne Ellington, whose father
was killed Sunday night in Philadelphia. Ellington was not with the
team.

"This is our livelihood, but this is still just a game," Scott said
before the game. "This thing that's happened to Wayne is real life. It
kind of puts everything in perspective."

Bryant led the Lakers (1-6) with 28 points, but shot 10 of 26 from the
field and surpassed Boston Celtics great John Havlicek for the most
missed field goals in an NBA career.

"He kind of got it going, but he went 10 for 26," said Memphis forward
Tony Allen, who guarded Bryant most of the night.

Backup guard Beno Udrih had 16 points for Memphis. Courtney Lee scored
15 as six Grizzlies finished in double figures, including Randolph with
11 points and 10 rebounds.

Memphis has not dropped a regular-season home game since a February
loss to Dallas.

Carlos Boozer scored 20 points for the Lakers. Wesley Johnson added 15,
while Hill had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant had six assists.

Bryant, who entered shooting 39 percent this season, didn't get off to
a very good start, connecting on only one of his first five shots. At
that point, the watch on Bryant reaching the NBA record for misses
began to gain attention.

Memphis held a 56-52 advantage at halftime.

The Grizzlies led most of the way, with the 17-point advantage in the
fourth marking their largest of the night before the final Los Angeles
rally.

"I guess it just kind of sums up our season thus far," said Lakers
guard Jeremy Lin, who had 12 points. "We did enough to learn and be
there and didn't do enough to win."

BAD MEMORIES

The game was Bryant's first in Memphis since he broke his left knee
against the Grizzlies last December, ending his season. Despite being
injured during that game, Bryant finished with 21 points. Asked how he
continued to play through the injury, he replied: "I figured if I'm
going to be out for a while, I might as well finish this game."
