Our client is currently looking for a Sr. Analytics / BI Engineer who will evaluate, specify, and implement architectural approaches of the business analytics, business intelligence, and reporting capabilities within a suite of enterprise-class commercial business software solutions. This position will focus upon architectural extensibility and operational performance utilizing Cognos, in the cloud retrieving data from a Oracle data sources.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Focuses upon performance, extensibility, and long-term maintenance of design approaches at a micro design level where micro design refers to the database or Cognos objects
Create, contribute, modify analytical artifacts which will be used to recommend, justify, or otherwise evaluate existing and proposed micro design; for example, a deconstruction of a Cognos Report object, Cognos Framework Manager object, or database object and specify the object’s impact and impact relationship to a macro or micro design
Evaluates technologies, defines technical approaches, and prepares technical design specifications to be implemented within the solution reporting framework
Implement, test, maintain, and support software, based on technical design specifications
Works with key stakeholders to contribute to the overall technology strategy of the commercial architecture blueprint
Works closely with our Enterprise Analytics Program Leader to systematically meet project goals
Work with Technology Key Focus Area team and the Platform Solution Strategy team to learn corporate plans and strategies, product direction and product and solution planning
Consults with solution development project teams to guide scalability, performance, and deployment design and technical standards evolution
Fosters an atmosphere of learning, sharing, and skill development
Qualifications:
B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience is required
IBM Cognos 10 certification (in at least one area) is required
Ten (10) years experience with analytical reporting technology is required
Strong SQL skills are required
Proven working knowledge of enterprise class solution business intelligence and analytics technology system configuration, user experience, data modeling, performance and optimization best practices is required
Experience developing analytics solutions deployed and supported within distributed, scalable, and high performance multi-tenant hybrid cloud environments is required
Experience integrating business intelligence technology into domain specific solution offerings via an OEM redistribution model is desired
5+ years experience developing complex dimensional reports in Cognos Report Studio is required
5+ years experience developing with Cognos Framework Manager required
Experience with version control (Source Safe, SVN, etc.) is preferred
Experience using automated development tools such as Motio PI is preferred
Experience with Business Objects, or other reporting analytics packages is a plus
Strong experience with the Oracle RDBMS is required
Experience with SQL Server is required
Experience tuning report performance using SQL analysis and database tools required
Experience with Big Data technologies and methodologies is desired (specifically Hadoop).
Experience with data warehouse appliances and methodologies preferred (such as Netezza, Terradata, etc).
Experience modeling relational, DMR, and Dynamic Cube solutions
Experience with in-memory technologies and methodologies desired (such as SAP Hana, Oracle Exalytics, Pivotal SQLFire)
Strong experience with Cognos 10.x is required including security design, implementation, and deployment is required
Experience with OLAP Cube technologies and methodologies is desired (specifically Cognos 10.x DMR and Dynamic Cube).
Experience with Cognos 10.x architecture and administration on Linux and Windows operating systems is strongly preferred
Experience with Oracle database administration is a plus
Experience implementing n-tiered, distributed systems across different Hardware/Operating System platforms is required
Works well with internal and external stakeholders at all business levels
Open-minded toward technology alternatives relative to architecture; able to put aside personal preferences in favor of efficiently and effectively delivering value to the market
