Minor League Baseball promotions are always in a league of their own (pun intended), and the Frisco RoughRiders, the AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have gone all out for the upcoming season.
“Riders-Con” is a series of promo nights honoring cultural institutions and celebrity appearances that will be sure to bring out everyone in the Metroplex to the ballpark.
Jose Canseco will make an appearance on June 4, and there’s no word as to whether a book signing will be attached to his appearance. Erik Estrada, he of CHiPs, will stop by on June 17 and Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters fame is coming on July 29, two weeks after the revival will be released in theaters. Wonder what he thinks of Melissa McCarthy…
Canseco’s appearance will also come complete with the “Jose Canseco Home Run Challenge”, where he’ll compete in a contest to hit the longest baseball or softball home run. Good luck winning that one, other challengers.
There are also eight themed nights at the ballpark, which include such amazing themes as a salute to arcades and 8-bit video gaming, a Top Gun night, Star Trek night, the obligatory Star Wars night, and Ghostbusters night.
Take a look at the Top Gun uniforms the Riders will be wearing:
They’ll be in the Danger Zone for sure. Also that night, the players will be introduced by their “flight call signs”, and the first 30 fans that come dressed in the “official Top Gun beach volleyball outfit- a swimsuit and dog tags”, can play in a sand volleyball game on a real sand court during the game!
Here’s their Game Boy themed jersey, which will be worn on 8-Bit and and Arcades Night.
And here’s the Ghostbusters jersey, complete with a proton pack.
I’m certainly intrigued, and you should be too. If you want to take a look at all of the many other promo nights, you can do so here.
