When I was a kid, I was given a picture book called, My Many Colored Days, in which for each day, the protagonist of the book felt like they were a different color. Living in New York City can feel like you’re stuck in an endless whirl pool of blacks and nudes — coming to the city in the middle of winter can feel monotonous to say the least. But color is actually everywhere in the Big Apple, so we’re here to encourage you to create your own many colored days with these looks and spots to match.

THINK PINK! From Elsa Schiaparelli’s “Hot Pink” to the ever-popular “Tumblr” pink, our all-time favorite hue is clearly having a moment. This winter, wrap up in a chic pink faux-fur jacket like this goldmine on Eva Chen with a cute pink sheath dress, or pair it with a pink tee and cut-off jeans for a downtown feel. Cuddle up swathed in pink at Pietro Nolita, then walk the pink Williamsburg Bridge for a monochromatic photo shoot.

Visit: Pietro Nolita, 174 Elizabeth Street, New York.

Some of the best things in NYC are blue. From the gorgeous bright skies in Central Park to the turquoise blue boxes of Tiffany & Co uptown, this city is truly a rhapsody in blue. Take a ride in a ferry in this dreamy denim skirt topped with a camisole and bomber jacket for an ultimate day-to-night look. Hit up a “blue” hotspot like Blue Note in the West Village, or the powdery blueish grey, Le Coucou.

Get the look: Blue skirt, bomber jacket

Visit: Le Coucou, 138 Lafayette St, New York.

Red is the most dramatic of all shades, and the international color of fire. For those reasons, red is for those wild nights when you feel like your energy can last way beyond your second drink at the bar. For such a powerful color, (in part inspired by Hillary Clinton’s first debate outfit), an all-red pant suit speaks volumes on a night out. Paired with either a platform or strappy heel and you’ll be dressed to kill — taking cues from our girl K Stew. Take in a cocktail and feast at Mission Chinese and then carry on to the 205 Club to dance under a dark red neon glow.

Get the look: Suit coat, suit pants

Visit: Mission Chinese, 171 East Broadway, New York, NY

New York has a bad rap for being polluted, but it’s easy to escape into nature when you’re in a smart green look traversing the parks, gardens, and other natural gems the city has to offer. Our first stop is the greenhouse at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens — walk around the grounds and stop inside the Victorian-inspired greenhouse for a killer monochromatic snap. Then head back to Manhattan, sip on matcha at the new Chalait. Or if you fancy something a bit stronger, the botanical-inspired cocktails at Botanic Lab might be just your panacea. Do said excursion while sporting a khaki green jacket with rich emerald hues – we suggest pairing it with a turtleneck and leather skirt look.

Get the look: Khaki jacket , turtleneck.

Visit: Brooklyn Botanical Garden, 990 Washington Ave, Brooklyn.

Yellow is a classic New York City color – it’s everywhere you look from street lights to the ubiquitous taxi cabs that can sometimes be your savior. Yellow is the brightness that makes this city pop. We say go all out in a mustard full: body dress with a graphic tee tucked under for daytime and bare a little bit of skin for night. Or just go big or go home, a la Bey. Grab some tequila and tacos in gold-shimmering underground La Esquina – light up the space at also-secret Attaboy, promptly after and ask for a bespoke honey-inspired cocktail like the queen you are. They’ll happily oblige.

Get the look: Dress (baseball bat not included.)

Visit: Attaboy- 134 Eldridge St, New York;  La Esquina- 114 Kenmare Street, New York.

No color more aptly represents the soulful side of life than purple. It is the hue of our dearly departed Prince, after all. A purple-inspired trip to NYC would be amiss without stopping by the eponymous Mr. Purple for a cocktail and view of the skyline just as it hits a lavender sunset. Slip into a grape-colored silk number like this jumpsuit from Topshop and be prepared to dance the woes away.

Get the look: Jumpsuit, shoes.

Visit: Mr Purple at Hotel Indigo- 180 Orchard Street, 15th floor, New York.

While the city sometimes concentrates on neutral aesthetics of whites and blacks, we like to kick back and retaliate with a shot of all the colors. En finale, throw on a sexy shift dress in this spectrum of colors, paired with a rocker-chic moto jacket and black mini boots for day and night on the town. Hit up the murals of NYC or take in the colors of the Studio Museum in Harlem for a shock of color. When you’re hungry, hang out under the neon sign at Pasquale Jones, sharing plates of fresh veggies and hot pizza. Round your evening with a visit to the glimmering, glitzy home of unadulterated fun at House of Yes.

Get the look: Mini-dress

Visit: House of Yes- 2 Wyckoff Ave, Brooklyn; Pasquale Jones- 86 Kenmare Street, New York
