"Sankranti" or "Pongal" is an important festival in South India and even in Maharashtra - important also because it is the first festival of the year!. Its marks the completion of the harvesting season. It is typically celeberated for three days with the first day being called as,"Bhogi", second day, "Sankranti" and the thrid day as "Kanuma".
