Whenever we shoot engagement pictures in Charleston SC we know our couples are expecting some signature Charleston elements such as architecture, mossy oaks, cobble stone, well known landmarks and more. But every couple is unique and deserves their own unique approach to their engagement pictures.

I always have clear discussions with our couples to find out exactly what they are looking for in their pictures. With that in mind, even if they suggest locations we’ve shot many times before, I always go into each shoot with a goal to create unique images specific to that couples wishes, style, body types, and personality. For example: you don’t take a fun, goofy couple and pose them in serious, boring poses. Like having a couple stand apart from each other holding hands without emotion. I absolutely hate that shot! Or to ask a more reserved couple to do a jumping shot. It just doesn’t make any sense because it’s not them.

Engagement pictures should be filled with emotion and love, and the final images should feel like your viewing into and experiencing a couple feelings for one another. It’s not hard when you know what your doing. But if your not in control of what your doing, and your not confident with posing and directing people, your going to get strange posing, uncomfortable subjects, and final images that don’t look natural.

There’s no such thing as a boring couple, there’s only boring photographers! As a photographer that specializes in people related events such as weddings, it’s my job to not only capture that emotion when it’s happening, but I also need to be able to create images that are filled with it when it’s not happening naturally.

If your a professional photographer with a focus on such area’s as: weddings, engagement pictures, bridal portraits, family pictures, then yu should be adept at everything that encompasses them. So if your not consistently proficient at lighting, posing, staging, and communicating with your subject to make them feel comfortable and bringing out the best in them, then your simply not good at your job. And there’s no excuse for it and you shouldn’t be calling yourself a professional.

So couples, listen up. If your looking at photographers to consider for your engagement pictures, just look at the posing, lighting, and expressions. And remember, that a photographer is posting what they consider to be the best from a shoot. So if their blog entry pictures, or highlight galleries don’t thrill you, imagine what the rest of them look like. Don’t just assume you’ll be a better subject for that photographer. It’s the responsibility of the photographer to be able to bring out the best in a subject, under any conditions, every time. That’s what a true professional does, and can do, consistently, ever time.

Every person, client, and couple, under our engagement, bridal, day-after, and even our family, senior, and business galleries are all staged, posed, directed, and created by me. Many times when I tell someone that all my portraits are staged, they are always surprised because they look so natural.

I challenge you to compare any of our my portrait galleries under weddings or portraits against any other photographer in SC. I guarantee you won’t find anyone better at creating genuine, natural portraits than we are!
