WBC is a not-for-profit organization that diverts bicycles from the waste stream in Chicago by repairing them for sale and charity. WBC donates over 6,000 bikes annually to local and international partners. Starting in 1999, WBC set out to dedicate their hearts to recycling bikes, supporting bike culture and investing in local and international projects. Their mission since day one has been to find a better purpose for old bikes, and they have successfully done so by redistributing more than 38,000 bikes worldwide.Globally, The Working Bikes Cooperative ships out its bicycles to their partners in countries throughout Latin America and Africa including, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Uganda, Ghana, and many others. Having an impact in the local-Chicago area, as well, WBC partners with homeless transition, refuge resettlement, and youth empowerment programs.
