Right from Princess Diana to Queen Letizia, and even more recently, The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton – nothing seems to capture the public’s imagination quite like a royal wedding.

And in fact, the wedding dresses worn by these blue blooded royals have achieved fame and a place in history all of their own. Let’s take a look:

1.The Duke And Duchess Of Windsor

Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor had a fairly modest ceremony back in 1937. The duchess’ wedding dress though, a Mainbocher creation that’s now on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art stole the show.

2. Princess Elizabeth And Prince Mountbatten

The 1947 marriage of this royal couple at Westminster Abbey saw the princess don this now iconic Norman Hartnell designed wedding dress.

3. Shah Reza Palevi And Queen Soraya

The emperor and empress of Iran were married in a stunning ceremony, and in those days fashion first arrived in Tehran before it got anywhere else (including Paris). Here the queen dons a stunning Christian Dior gown.

4. Prince Rainier And Grace Kelly

The 1956 Monaco wedding of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly saw the princess don a Helen Rose designed gown, with Helen Rose having dressed Grace for films High Society and The Swan.

5. Queen Noor and King Hussain

This 1978 wedding in Jordan saw the queen pick a resplendent Christian Dior creation as her bridal outfit.

6. Diana And Prince Charles

An iconic wedding, and iconic real life princess and one of the most talked about wedding gowns of all time. Princess Di’s July 1981 wedding saw her don a gorgeous wedding gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.

7. Tim Taylor And Lady Helen

Lady Helen Windsor and Tim Taylor were married in a beautiful July 1992 wedding, and the even more beautiful wedding gown donned by Lady Helen of Windsor was designed by Catherine Walker.

8. Prince Abdullah And Queen Rania

Queen Rania of Jordan gives even the most iconic royals – like Princess Di – a run for their money. In 1993, this beloved royal married Prince Abdullah in a memorable ceremony but what was even more memorable for her elaborate and gorgeous Elie Saab designed wedding gown.

9. Princess Marie Chantel And Prince Pavlos

Princess Marie Chantel of Greece (pictured here with her father, Robert Miller) wore the most gorgeous Valentino wedding dress for her nuptials to Prince Pavlos in July of ’95.

10. Queen Letiza Ortiz And King Felipe

This Spanish Royal couple tied the knot in the May of 2004 in a resplendent ceremony that was complete with military sword salute and all. However it was her iconic wedding dress designed by Manuel Pertegaz, that got all the heads-turning.

The 2008 wedding of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie saw the princess opt for an Arasa Morelli design for her wedding gown.

14. Prince William And The Duchess Of Cambridge Kate Middleton

There isn’t much to say about this wedding that hasn’t already been covered, but we’re just going to reiterate how vey beautiful the duchess’ Alexander McQueen designed wedding dress was.

15. Prince Albert II And Princess Charlene

Monaco, 2011 was the setting for this royal couple’s wedding, with the princess’ wedding dress coming from the reliably excellent hands of Emporio Armani.
