KUALA LUMPUR: The majority of Malaysians trust and respect Bank Negara Malaysia, says governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akthar Aziz.

“Malaysians look to us to maintain this degree of stability in our country in very challenging times. The fact is we never had disruptions in credit flow and this is important.

“Businesses are not deprived of credit activities unlike in other places where credit flow is disrupted and liquidity is not provided in a satisfactory manner.

“I have always directed a significant amount of efforts towards strengthening capability strength and the resilience of the central bank,” she told reporters after the ground breaking ceremony for the Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management here yesterday.

Zeti said markets were now ‘relatively orderly’.

“We have seen a decline in our reserves but the reserves have actually stabilised. At a certain point of time, we have rebuilt the reserves position. So that is how we have operated,” she added. — Bernama
