KUCHING: Defending champions De Rieza FC will be facing a tough task of defending their title as the 2nd Piala Utusan Borneo futsal tournament gets underway today at Coneli Futsal Stadium in Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa.
This is because many big names in the state futsal arena are taking part in this tournament which attracted 59 teams for the men’s category and 42 teams for the Boys U12 category.
De Rieza FC are drawn in Group C with Cousin FC Beak United and Braca FT in the draw conducted at the stadium on Thursday.
Last year’s third placed Kanoli FCX are drawn in Group E with Felcra Lundu, JPAM Samarahan and Mirage Futsal Team while Group L will see a tough contest between Persela A, Fire Rescue Sarawak, Galaxy FC and IJ Team B.
Meanwhile, in the Boys’ U12, the recent champions of the 8th Arena Sukan Youth Futsal Competition, Axis Academy, are expected to face stiff competition from Sarawak Milo Cup representative Oge team and Luminox Vicam Junior B in Group M.
Other teams posing a strong title challenge are White Tiger in Group B, Kanoli FC in Group C, Planet Futsal Academy Milo in Group F and Sperta Junior A in Group K.
